Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

All of Hot Toys current sculpts look the same to me.

I used to love the work they did on their eyes, but now they all look they're possessed and soul less.

And yeah, yeah the typical JC Hong assurance. It doesn't matter if it's only 70% completed, after what happened with his Keaton Bruce Wayne head to the final prdouct, I doubt the production Ripley will look better than what is currently being shown.

I'm not convinced the Bruce Wayne sculpt we got is the same one he painted. I don't think his paintjob could really make that much of a difference.

In my opinion, this head sculpt is the first female with LIFE in her eyes.

Yeah, it isn't. I took pics of the final product with the same lighting and angles JC Hong used and it's completely different. The hair line, the curls, the shape of the face, everything. It was a straight up lie about it being about the paint job between production heads.

That's why I think it's foolish to put stock into whatever is said about this Ripley. Why the hell would you want to show something that's 70% "finished" or whatever when it's not even the actual head collectors will get in their hands is beyond me. The final product will either look about the same, or worse.

I don't think this Ripley head is awful, but it's not great either. It's just that bland "Hot Toys look" that all their headsculpts now a days seem to sport. It's right there with their Mark Hamills, their Michael Keatons, their Harrison Fords, their Arnolds, their Scarlett Johansons waith their lifeless eyes and blank, broody expression. I'm not trying to be a hater, but for me, Hot Toys peaked a while back. They've run out of gimmicks and innovations as far as I'm concerned, unless people count 1:1 statues as pushing the envelope as far as high end collectible toys go.

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but that Battle Damaged Robocop was their plateau.

Agreed, that is their absolute peak. It has made me harder on all other sculpts to be honest.

It's also amazing when you take into account how difficult that headsculpt would be to nail. Not only to you have to get the actor's likeness down pat, but you have all this prosthetic and mechanical work to worry about. They pulled it off with flying colors. It's funny how a head of basically a dead man with his face pulled over a machine is more life like and human looking than their space truckers and super heroes.

Also amazing is that figure probably barely registered in Hong Kong. They probably call it ''Not Iron Man''.

Well,I concur but to be devil's advocate ,I must say that guys without hair are easier to make them look "alive" or "real".......ok,if you get the eyes right....I'm looking at you Roadblock...

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

That's the thing, we know Hot Toys sculpts like a dozen different heads with numerous variations.

There's probably a great Ripley in someone's work drawer somewhere along with their Keaton and Ford's.

Look at all these Captain Jack Sparrows that never saw the light of day.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Hot toys has basically raised the bar too high for itself. They've already gone as far as they can go with their figures. For me as well as their battle damaged robocop the best figure in terms of likeness they ever did was the DX06 Jack Sparrow figure a few years back. Most of their releases are meh nowadays but from time to time they do tend to hit the ball out of the ballpark with certain figures in terms of accuracy. Its just a pity its more hit and miss then a constant thing.

There is MASSIVE interest in this figure and it's now being advertised for sale everywhere, including ebay!

Does anyone know the edition size?

I remember seeing a figure of around 350 on a Toy Sapiens advert but feel it's going to be at least 1250?

Any idea's?

ALIEN

Nobody knows this I don't think, they haven't had edition sizes with certificates for about 10 years now.

They make a lot. :lol If you want an idea of how many Ripley's there will be, go on ebay and type in "Hot Toys Marty McFly".

yep.

only $150.

I used Snyderman's Ripley (bald version) for my Alien3 custom and it's really good for an older Ripley. For 1979 Ripley maybe not so much...

You can actually buy that unpainted sculpt for $45 from a member here. The $150 price is for the paint job and ebay fees.

Since you're all perfect and amazing at fixing perceived shortcomings, you should have the hot toys sculpt topped in no time from your clear talents... Can't wait to see YOUR contributions to the community :rotfl
