Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

You can actually buy that unpainted sculpt for $45 from a member here. The $150 price is for the paint job and ebay fees.

Since you're all perfect and amazing at fixing perceived shortcomings, you should have the hot toys sculpt topped in no time from your clear talents... Can't wait to see YOUR contributions to the community :rotfl

...who are you talking to?

bigbisont
what are you talking about?
I'm sorry, this could be so much better.
i tried to find examples and failed.

You'll forgive me if I took anything posted prior as anything but criticism. P's post wreaked of sarcasm by ending with the price, and Agromenauer's following laughter led me to believe the synderman sculpt was made into a punchline. If I completely misinterpreted those posts, then I apologize.

Overall we have a ton of "experts" who's only skill seems to be criticism. Criticizing a nameless, faceless corporation is all fine a great, but dragging in a member and vendor who has actually contributed to the community by actually creating alternatives to stock gear is uncalled for.

...it's not that I don't agree with you to an extend, but I don't think anyone meant to be A-holes. And yes, many of Snyderman's heads are in fact good.

no no, i must clarify that "yep" + picture + price meant:

"if you still say that it could be done better, check how it was already done, and how much it costs, meaning that it's the apex of custom creation that existed or will exist. if you still say it could be done better, feel free to spend $150 for that head - i will get a full figure with a superior head for only twice more."

so actually... i addressed those same critics you are kicking in your post.

what went after that is completely on other people's conscience :dunno
(i hate that word. cannot remember its spelling.)

In my opinion, the best head sculpt was...

i even forgot it existed. where did it go? :(
though it doesn't fit A1 where she was the youngest.

I love how they can fix The body type of fatman aka batman from batman vs superman (which was an okay movie) but a movie like Alien (1979) which has been around for many years and is a TRUE CLASSIC just gets this...it's honestly really underwhelming and the sculpt looks absolutely nothing like Weaver, let's not even talk about the little sh** (Jonesy). Why can't they just make a new head sculpt? Maybe they're like mother and they do not compute. I really wanted the last survivor of nostromo.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

So that ugly ass sculpt is Snyderman's?

How many years ago did that represent the pinnacle of Ripley sculpts for $150 painted?

Well, you can still get it and it's not bad.
This here is the bald version and it's pretty much perfect I think. It was $50 unpainted.

It does look a lot more relevant in that scenario, and with that paintwork.

Nice custom!

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Hot toys has basically raised the bar too high for itself. They've already gone as far as they can go with their figures. For me as well as their battle damaged robocop the best figure in terms of likeness they ever did was the DX06 Jack Sparrow figure a few years back. Most of their releases are meh nowadays but from time to time they do tend to hit the ball out of the ballpark with certain figures in terms of accuracy. Its just a pity its more hit and miss then a constant thing.

I believe that in manufacturing the one and only measure of excellence is the consistency in quality. Considering the amount of figures that they made over the years I would say if you are Buying HT products u know exactly what to expect from them Unlike Enterbay for example.

They do have exceptional figures out there like the Godfather, Jack Sparrow, Robocop, Leonidas, Hellboy and the DX Terminator.
How much more progress can they really make? Good question.

I believe that the only problem with this Ripley is the quality of the prototype. Now we know, that they could do a better job. We are disappointed that's all. The rest is just nitpicking.

I can't help but feel u have a good point, if this were iron man it would get better treatment from hot toys.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Not impressed for the money. Recently, am leaning towards the idea of selling my HT figures, buying a few cool statues/props (10 or so) and getting out of the game.
HT announced 2.0s of the Predators in 2012. 4 years later, and we've had 5 or so new figures. Before they've completed the AvP line, they've announced what looks like a weak Alien line. An Alien figure or 2 a year; just doesn't cut it for me. No promises of more warriors either.

Plus, they still can't nail Arnie's likeness, or Weavers it seems. If I want to continue collecting HT, I'd want to go back to the old figs, which would cost a small fortune as well. For the price of the Terminator Salvation line, I could have a 1/2 Endo. Think I'm out!

Think I'd enjoy collecting NECA more if I was going for figs. Could have every Alien you'd want in a weekend! No boxes to worry about either. But..think I'm gonna go for some high-end statues.
Stick it Hot Toys!! lol

I feel the same way as well. Lately hot toys have just been producing generic looking sculpts of the people they are supposed to represent. Look at the commando figure for example. From time to time they do knock a figure out of the ballpark in terms of likeness ie robocop and jack sparrow but its now becoming a rarity rather then the norm. I'm still waiting on the bvs batmobile to be released but no sign of that yet so i think i'm pretty much also done with hot toys. It says a lot for them when im more interested in their vehicles then their figures anymore.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Apparently it is still superior for some people as they continue to list and sell that head on a regular basis. Different strokes for different folks.

Sorry. I though that you are joking posting this head sculpt... I must respect your taste, but it's impossible for me to see anything comparable with HT head sculpt... My apologies.

My Ripley won't want it anywhere near her.

She'll put her helmet on so nobody can remove her head!

Well, she would if HT was into releasing accessory packs for figures.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Nobody knows this I don't think, they haven't had edition sizes with certificates for about 10 years now. They make a lot. :lol If you want an idea of how many Ripley's there will be, go on ebay and type in "Hot Toys Marty McFly".
LOL! I see what you mean! :D

Sorry to hear you're down on them too. But completely agree. The B-D Robocop is a fantastic sculpt but so many of the others are off. I have the DX13 - arguably the best Arnold Schwarzenegger sculpt they've produced and the likeness on it still isn't that striking.

Trouble for me is, I collect Predator, Terminator and Alien only. Marvel/DC/Star Wars - not obsessed with them. Seeing as you'd want every character, it's too expensive a can of worms to open for me.

The superheroes are where HT shine with their costume work. The Aliens/Terminators are all kind of drab, and the tailoring on the older figs is rather doll-like. If I wanted a T-1000, i'd need to drop about £300...and for what? I could buy a 1/4 statue for that! I'd say they represent poor value/shelf-presence for the money - if a friend walks into my collection room and sees a life-size Alien bust, they're gonna think that's something special. They look at 5 Hot Toys and they'll think they probably cost about £60 each and that i'm into toys.

Something to bear in mind - The BvS line plus Batmobile, and you're not far off a 1:2 BvS statue from Prime 1.
