Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

From what I've seen with the quality of what the figure looks like, jonesy, and just everything about this figure seemed like they didn't care (not saying I know, just stating how feel about this product). They only have about 20 something female figures not including the 5 versions of BW or 3 versions of scarlet witch (Hot Toys Sixth Scale Figures) and I feel like they are not very into making female figures. This COULD have been the grail piece of sixth scale history. And what's with the whole "70% completion" on JC's page? It's like they know the figure COULD be way better. Not one picture is a close up of her face. It's obvious.

The bigger a fan you are, and the more familiar you are with the design and detail re: character likeness, costume and accessories, the more critical you're likely to be. Hence you see a whole lot wrong with this particular figure that you might overlook in a different figure.

What you've got here is a standard Hot Toys effort. It has nothing to do with it being a female figure, or HT not caring.

Yep, I think you're right.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Agreed as well. I think the figure looks fairly good overall. I'm not the most diehard fan so I probably am not as nitpicky but I think she's looking good thus far. The sculpt looks like Weaver to me and the outfit looks great. I am still disappointed somewhat with the sculpted hair but I'm not going to pass on the figure for that reason. My main complaint about the set is really just that Jonesy seems like he needs to be reworked a bit. The color seems off and the face looks weird.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

It's the "Give a starving man a cracker and he'll say it's the best food he's ever eaten" scenario.

I've been "starving" for years for a good Ripley figure and while this new one may not be perfection in 1/6th scale, it's looking real good to me, especially as I take a glance at my old Ripley figure that came with the Power Loader... :horror

But I truly understand the issue with rising prices and lowering standards (and/or lack of accessories). This one could have been a little better with a boost in either option.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I showed Ripley to my sister (who's not a collector whatsoever) to get her opinion on it. She strongly disliked her. Thought the hair looked terrible.

I was really looking forward to Ripley, but now I feel myself slowly creeping up onto the fence here. Not sure what to do. :gah:

Wait for the "looks fantastic in-hand" comments to roll in

I showed her to my dog as he knows absolutely nothing about collectibles. He was wagging his tale so I'm definitely gonna get this one!! ;-)

Edit: crap... my cat didn't seem to care about her, so now I'm on the fence... [emoji51]

Good one, Fly. :lol Pretty much sums it up for me -- UNLESS they do a Lucky Star Ripley w BC 2.0 2-pk.

And what did your cat think of the Jonesy sculpt? Was an opinion offered, or is your cat waiting for in paw pics?

He didn't seem to recognize it as a cat - it worries me. I was really looking forward to this one. [emoji27]

In my opinion, the best head sculpt was...

I agree....
HOT TOYS, WHERE IS THIS SCULPT.??

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

it is obviously in some black hole.
and nothing returns from a black hole.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I'm not buying it.
Implanted hair is the future. Sculpted hair is a step backwards. Likeness is horrible. Jonesy gives away the lack of "particular interest" in creating a figure that's way more relevant in cinematic History than **********g nth Cap Am.

Either we guys make a stand and teach HT to treat us right, or things will only worsen. They deserve a massive cancellation flood. Maybe that way we'll get a great Aliens Ripley, or nothing at all. But no more mediocrity with the Aliens franchise.
And there are other manufacturers.

Your move, creeps!!

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

where are all you real hair lovers when figures get ripped to shreds over having it????? All the pro hair love in here feels like some alternate universe ***** lol

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Well, people still moaning about it not being so great. That's fair enough, it could have been better. MIGHT be one of those that looks amazing in person and that is impossible to photograph without a very high end camera.

Either way, I don't regret pre-ordering.
