Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Jonesy needs to be not hissing. But glad he is being reworked. Now get rid of Ripley's buck teeth!
Yeah I agree about Jonesy. I get what they're going for with the hissing mouth but I think he'd look better with just a closed mouth. Glad to see that they're re-doing him though.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I'll give them nine attempts at Jonesy before I call the project a dead end.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Thanks, Booshman!!!!
Now, will any of you deny this is a nice improvement?
I won't deny the result of this improvement is still not Ripley.
Booshman, there is too much chin. It juts too much... And the eyes are still not right...
And I'm beginning to thing that both eyes should be bigger and lower...
Could you do a gif of your end result and the reference pic I used, both centered wrt each other?
m.

^^^ That sculpt looks more aliens ripley to me though, not alien.

I think we have to remember that lighting and Weaver's hair style makes us see her face quite differently in each film. Certainly age makes some slight difference, but not drastically.

In Alien, she goes from unkempt mop (occasionally with bangs), to longer, straighter wet hair, to a high pigtail that acts to bunch the hair both at the back and sides. That alters how we see the angularity and character of her face (particularly given Scott's strict attention to lighting, and how it falls with respect to each hair style). In Aliens, Weaver has the obvious wig in the beginning, then the shorter fringed cut that puffs on either side, and finally the wet look. Alien hides her jawline somewhat; Aliens fully displays it. It must make it very difficult to produce a definitive sculpt.

That said, I think the 'newer' version of the first sculpt (with rooted hair) was truer to Weaver's appearance in Alien, even if the jawline is prominent ala Aliens. The rooted hair helped soften that, as in the film:

The newest sculpt waters down character, robbing her of those (important) doe eyes and disproportionately accentuating some kind of overbite. Rather than the terrified (but composed) Ripley expression typical of the latter stages of Alien (as seen with the newer first sculpt), we have a somewhat quizzical dead fish blandness. This seems to be a disturbing HT trend, as seen with the Star Wars line.

Age does make quite a big difference in this case. Her facial features are definitely much softer in 1979. Regardless of light and hair.

Jut look at pics from her in alien and aliens.. Her face changed a lot in 7 years. sharper lines are evident.. the HT sculpt is good. Great? no, but i like it

Exactly. The same thing can be said for Linda Hamilton in T1 vs T2. Hamilton had a very soft face in T1. Seven years later and after a lot of working out, her face was very chiseled and angular. Did Weaver also tone up? I don't really know, but you see the same kind of differences.

I would say its nothing to do with toning up but rather the aging process. Peoples faces in general are much softer looking when they are young but tend to change in structure and appearance as they get older.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

My face has filled out since my 20s, my jawline is rounder. Sounds like a bad thing but I prefer it - I used to be a bit too stick necked for my liking, sorta like this figure.

This probably gets brought up on the regular but what are the chances for a Queen?

At the walker stalker con couldn't pass up these 2 artist prints

I love this guy's art. I saw them and meant to get some stuff at Dallas Comic Con a few years back. I really wanted one of his Dr. Who prints. It's a shame he doesn't sell online; remember his name by chance? I know I have his details somewhere but can't remember where I put them.

That would be enormous. I'm not sure that could bring in enough revenue to justify production.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Marvel Vs. Aliens is likely. At some point in the not-too-distant future, we'll see Marvel profits declining, and the result will be gimmickry, just like you see in TV sitcoms. First, Black Widow will get pregnant and add some precocious kids to the mix. Then, we'll add pet sidekicks (oh, to see the Legion of SuperPets on the big screen!). Then, cross-overs with other popular fantasy/action franchises from elsewhere. Alien, Predator, Terminator, Rambo, Street Fighter, Garbage Pail Kids, etc.
