Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I love this guy's art. I saw them and meant to get some stuff at Dallas Comic Con a few years back. I really wanted one of his Dr. Who prints. It's a shame he doesn't sell online; remember his name by chance? I know I have his details somewhere but can't remember where I put them.

The guy's name is Jason Palmer his website is Jasonpalmer.net

Those are excellent.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Marvel Vs. Aliens is likely. At some point in the not-too-distant future, we'll see Marvel profits declining, and the result will be gimmickry, just like you see in TV sitcoms. First, Black Widow will get pregnant and add some precocious kids to the mix. Then, we'll add pet sidekicks (oh, to see the Legion of SuperPets on the big screen!). Then, cross-overs with other popular fantasy/action franchises from elsewhere. Alien, Predator, Terminator, Rambo, Street Fighter, Garbage Pail Kids, etc.

lol!

well if Dark Horse could do it....if this is what it takes to get us a HT Queen.....I guess I could endure green lantern!

Yes! That's it. Thanks, man.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

That said, I think the 'newer' version of the first sculpt (with rooted hair) was truer to Weaver's appearance in Alien, even if the jawline is prominent ala Aliens. The rooted hair helped soften that, as in the film.

The newest sculpt waters down character, robbing her of those (important) doe eyes and disproportionately accentuating some kind of overbite. Rather than the terrified (but composed) Ripley expression typical of the latter stages of Alien (as seen with the newer first sculpt), we have a somewhat quizzical dead fish blandness. This seems to be a disturbing HT trend, as seen with the Star Wars line.

True, this is another example of people complaining too much prompting HT to rework a good hs that we will end up with a worse one. I'm sure HT was already proud of the old hs and they were probably shocked at the bad reception that they didn't know how to fix it anymore so it resulted in that quizzical dead look hs. I rather have a figure that looks more like Weaver even if it is a look from the wrong movie. I could also use that old hs to make a Ghostbusters demon-possessed Weaver custom figure. :)

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

This figure still looks way better than Iminime Ripley, IMO,
which is what I currently have. Looking forward to replacing
that figure with this new one. It looks good enough to me.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

so, I wanted to check the size comparison between this figure and other ones...

Ripley should be a tall girl. Sigourney Weaver is. You don't see women that tall very often, but she is.

So I used the Sideshow website figure profile pictures, and tried to keep right the scales for this comparison.

I think size looks great, they went the tall way till the end, it seems.

Great to know that.

I think she is. Indy may be a bit taller and perhaps I got him a tad wrong because of the hat...

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

wikipedia says that
Sigourney was reportedly 5' 10½" (179 cm) tall by the age of 14, although she only grew another inch during her teens to her adult height of 5' 11½" (182 cm).
tall for a woman, yes, but definitely not monstrously tall for a human.

I think Hot Toys nailed it. She's probably on heels in this photo.

Guess we wont be getting a HT Call though :lol Though truth be told I did not mind her character in AR, even though the idea of an android built by androids was an interesting idea.

And I think Weaver looks great in that pic :goodpost:

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Weaver looks great in pretty much every pic! LOL Especially in every scene in Ghostbusters.
