Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Actually, as I understand it there probably is a rights/likeness issue. Most modern/current movies have contracts where the actors' likenesses are included in the character contracts. You buy the license to produce characters from movie (like GI Joe, Avengers, or whatever) and you have the ability to reproduce the faces of those characters.

Back in the 80s, movies like Die Hard, Aliens, Terminator and all those classics didn't include all that. The 'talent' still owned their own faces separate from the license. To make accurate figures from movies in that era, you need to buy the license from the studio and then negotiate with the talent on top to use their faces. This double payment is why it is so hard to get companies to commit to figures from older movies.

That must be it. And knowing Willis he probably wants a fortune for his likeness.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

It is insulting that we have Joe Colton and not John McClane. from anyone.

I don't count that NECA figure.

:exactly:

Outside of Kyle Reese (and T1 and T2 figures generally) a few of the USCMs with real actor likenesses are my grails now. The outfits are just so cool and even a small squad of Hicks, Hudson, Vasquez and Drake would look so cool made at present standards with working shoulder lamps and so on. Beyond them, probably a Die Hard 1 John McClane.

Yes! I really need that, I'm a big Alien fan and I don't have any of those figures the old ones are hard to come by and not worth the evilbay prices

My guess is, the movie's rating had a lot to do with that as well. Back then, studios had just learned a hard and expensive lesson when they watched Lucas make off with more money than Midas on his Star Wars merchandising deals. So if they had a movie they thought they could make toys from ... well those likeness rights got locked up nice and tight. But this movie was rated R. It was just inconceivable at the time that anyone would want toys from an R-rated movie. It was for adults. Adults don't buy toys! That would be crazy! :lol

I think he just doesn't want to be reminded that he once had hair.

I have a bad feeling that one day HT will finally announce they're doing a John McClane figure ... and it will be from A Good Day to Die Hard.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I won't be happy unless they make all versions of him. Like Iron Man milking levels. I want McClane calling his wife in that terrible jumper from Die Hard 2.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

So I guess there's no "we want John McClane" thread? Would be nice to have a John figure. Really nice! I keep seeing this thread with new posts and come in here to see if anybody knows what's going on with Ripley and it's all talk about John. Someone should start a thread for him.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

You never know, HT might Suprise us. I'm hoping that they tease us with something soon. She is an instant buy for me.

The delicate blend of sarcasm, passive-aggression and gentle enthusiasm makes this the most elegant of protest posts. Truly beautiful :monkey2

BLAM!

You hear that? Talk to me, where is my Hot Toys John McClane thread? Where is it, or shall I shoot another one? Sooner or later, I might get to someone you do care about!

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

.......why didn't he follow through with that threat again? Seems like it might have worked.
