Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Great list! THANKS!

However MCU have many many more characters now and more films now. Even though HT has stepped up production they can't get all these MCU and soon DC (BVS and possibly Suicide Squad plus other DC movies) figures out and have much left resources to produce as many of the licenses you named. I think Terminator line is exhausted in THEIR eyes and so is Predator lines. Oh I forgot SW now added...

Except they just bought the new terminator license and revealed in their new behind the scenes tease with an Arnold head. They also teased the new female alien/Pred female thingy. So I do not think that's the case.

As for the post(from not you lol) about hot toys not filling out the full character lists...

First that's not the issue we where talking about. Second, as I have said any times its sales that drive it. If superman characters sold as well as the avengers, meaning people actually buying them, they would make pa Kent BD and ma kent DX. That's not on hot toys. That's the market. And they don't do every character from marvel either. Look at xmen, how about spiderman, and blade and thor movies and others.

Of course a new film will have higher interest then a Clark Kent from a 1978 movie. It's silly to expect the interest in a non top 50 movie from 35 years ago to generate the merchandise of a top 2 or 3 movie of all time, that's now in theater.

As for avatar....despite Its box office success it has never moved the needle in regards to merchandise. The jake sully figure in one of the lower sellinging figures hot toys has made. There are retailers that had it at Msrp likeclast year when I bought mine.

As for hot toys releasing full lists and that being why they didn't sell. That's not something a business can plan for and is not a great strategy.

First, each figure can get held up for years thru the production process. Look at drax. And there are many others. add to that that what people consider core or necessary is so varied they would have to do 40 characters from every movie to cover that.

If one figure doesn't sell...say jake sully...who and what business would then make four more characters that are going to sell less and less. Instead of trying a new property? It's a good way to go out of business.

As for the second question about doing MCU level...go back and look at what was released in those four pre 2010 photos. Nothing has changed. They released one figure from 300. Before any iron man figures. One figure from blade. And lots of others the same. And then look at the list I wrote. They have released 5 terminator figures since MCU. 6 predator figures.

MCU has allowed for more risks. They have not effected the production of non MCU figures in any way other then allowing hot toys to double the amount they make. Period

Are you talking about that shot in the JC Hong video of the sculpt beside Vision and Scarlet Witch?

I decided to make it part of it. It's of interest to me. The answer was pretty much what I expected and anticipated in my own post.

Do you yourself have any ''annoyances'' as a figure collector or conversely any hopes of what to see from Hot Toys - either as regards figures you'd like them to make or any changes you'd like to see in the way they go about things?

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Ripley is a dead and buried. All HT cares about is Marvel stuff.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

At this point in time, I would love to see HT finally, finally, finally give us a new Rocky and Rambo. I'm happy the DX line is dead, they'll be swanky MMS's. Also, next year is Aliens' 30th anniversary. I haven't seen anything more heavily requested around here more than new marines.

I'd also appreciate a new interview with Howard about now, where every question isn't about Avengers.

If I had to guess I'd say we'll get to pre-order this figure next year, and we'll get it by 2017 more or less

You know what, I tip my hat to you. Most people just scream and call me names. I enjoy talking with you. I know it seems my posts take a certain tone but that's not on purpose. But when you disagree with most people the tone is inferred at times even when it's not there and I've just gotten to where I don't bother with the sugar and nice stuff. But I wanted to let you know I respect what you are saying and you as a person despite not agreeing. That said....lol

There are tons of figures I'd like to see. The list of stuff I want is probllably as deep as anyone else on here. And there are things I would do differently if I ran hot toys. But I wasn't the one that lost money for years (hot toys operated at a lose for over three years, which is typical for new business) nor was it me that built a small company from nothing to the largest 1/6 company on the planet. It's not my money or time so I really see no upside in applying my wants to their company. I also know if it where not for hot toys we would get nothing. There's not a single other company in the same Galaxy as hot toys in regards to product. If they stop making stuff I stop buying.

I also know that what I may like is not always reflective of the public at large as well. To many people think that becuase they and five (or what other number) people they know like something that means it will sell. And MOST of the time that's incorrect.

I know I'm in the minority on a lot of what I post. But that doesn't mean I'm wrong. I do my best to leave my personal wants out of it. And try to explain the way it is done and why it's done that way. And people are often so blinded by preconceived ideas it doesn't matter. Go back like three posts where someone said ripley dead all they care about is marvel...after I just showed that from the time the first ripley was released till now hot toys has doubled its pace of producing non marvel items. Not decreased it but increased. And I also posted awhile back that this figure has a unique licensing agreement that is not typical and is why it gets delayed. The actress has the likeness rights not the studio. So she gets to approve or disapprove any product with her likeness on it. It's an added step that very few other products have to go through. And part of why it gets delayed. But most people come up with silly reasons why this happens like it's some conspiracy or hot toys doesn't care...crap like that.

Hey, I just want to say that you are not alone. I agree with almost everything you post. You are often the only rational voice in the cacophony of whining and conspiracy theories that is so pervasive on this board. Honestly, I don't know how you manage to not feel like you are beating your head against a wall all the time. I know I don't have the patience to deal with it. That's why I rarely post.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Well then, thank god that Marvel's success will be giving us a Ripley figure. :clap

Bring it on already, HT. The eighteen fans are ready!

The person a few posts up was having a bit of a joke there :lol Those wily Aussies. Someone obviously goes to a lot of time and hassle with a post and you troll them by posting like you didn't read it at all or you completely missed the point, but Lejuan is one of the good ones on here, I have no doubt he in fact did read and understood.

As for me, I try not to go in for flame wars and namecalling as I find that stressful. There was a time earlier in my membership when I was involved in quite a few of those - not fun. But if there's a discussion to be had about a hot topic, a discussion which can be had without being provocative, with respectful disagreement then I'm up for that. And here's the thing - I'm no longer sure I do disagree. Something has come over me the past few days, I've gotten kinda sick of my own complaints even while I've been posting them and I suppose I've been looking for someone to put them to bed (hopefully) once and for all. I might not be without moments of weakness in the future but if I do have them I'll try to keep it to myself and let it pass.

If indeed Hot Toys was operating on a loss in their earlier years, those pre-Iron Man days, then I'm forced to agree that we probably are lucky that they continue trying to cater to us with older licenses that aren't big money-makers for them. I'll keep hoping that they finish out certain lines with important characters, but I guess if they don't they don't. Money not spent.

I should probably say I'll still complain about things like inaccuracies or bad likenesses but as regards acting like Hot Toys is an Evil Empire, that's the sort of complaint I've worn myself out on.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

At this point, I appreciate what I already have and have shifted my focus. From their Kyle Reese figure MMS02 to $15k later I have supported them. However, I've learnt from McFarlane Toys that for me the ride doesn't last. So I simply shift my focus and move on. If they make something I like I'll buy it. Just as they hold no obligation to me....I hold none to them. Besides, that frees up more funds for other things.

That's good to hear.

There's nothingn wrong with wanting better likeness and what not. Constructive Critism is actually welcomed by hot toys. At least by the people I know there. It's the stuff where people say they left this or that off becuase they forgot or are lazy...that's the stuff they, and i, really dislike.

The thing about faces and accuracy is that it's extremely subjective. Depends on what source you are comparing it to, and the persons life experience, and how they view things. This is probably going to bother some folks, but it's a scientific fact acknowledge by the Supreme Court...people who have limited personal connections with people of another race often have a hard to with those races faces. It's a complicated human issue. And no, I'm not racist or saying anyone else is. It's just the way it is. (And fyi I come from a blended race family with a mixed child of my own) anyway....

Just food for thought.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

As for getting some of the older figure lines filled out...I hope they do so as well. I'll reach out and see what they say about it.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

When it comes to likenesses and facial recognition, ask the ladies. It's proven that they're better at it. (Also with colors apparently)

That would be cool. At the risk of coming across as tacky considering I've so recently been among the complainers - Kyle Reese from T1 (specifically his 1984 clothes), remakes of the Colonial Marines from Aliens and John McClane from Die Hard are of particular interest to me :monkey3

T1 Sarah Connor and T2 John Connor would be fantastic aswell - I know they are and have always been a long shot as single releases but I wonder how they might do as part of 2-packs alongside bigger draw items.....

That is true and ties into the little known fact with Hasbro initially wanting their original GI Joe figures to come with "American Fighting Style Grip" but the toymakers in China had a hard time processing the request.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Motuxmen - ask about Rocky and Rambo, and new marines!

I love the recent two-packs they've done, like Robo/Murphy, Keaton Bats and TWS Cap. I still firmly believe this will have an option with a new Alien.
