Great post!

I think with the ESB Fett we were lucky that collectors were upset with the initial reveal photos in which the helmet was a ROTJ mould (or so it seemed).

This ESB Vader initially looked amazing via the reveal pics and somehow got worse with the final product photos. I hope future Vaders don't suffer this lack of progress. I hope Hot Toys doesn't choke on their aspirations. They've failed us for the last time!!!

...Hot Toys.

None of these Vader figures are perfect.. except maybe the 1:4 rotj prototype. Does the ESB one have issues? Yep, and they seem the product of laziness - tusks, mouth triangle too long, narrow face etc but to me, after reading and taking into account peoples criticism cannot see a bad figure. And its the most ESB likeness of them so far, which matters as I prefer esb/rotj look over anh and r1.

You can kinda tell when people keep posting to justify their purchase or cancellations and its getting a little old, enjoy the hobby and the mostly awesome figures that comes with it, don't loose sleep over if a belt or chestbox is positioned off on a 12" toy when the rest of it is mostly top notch. :lecture

Man if the figures back in the 80s or 90s had even half of the likeness and quality to what is available today..

In short, ESB mask should be a shrunken down version of the 1:4, but instead we get a narrower face, longer mouth and misaligned tusks, for strange reasons. However it is not as bad as people here are making it out to be, when I look at the figure photos and clips I see ESB Vader, that's enough for me.

At this price point these figures should be expected to hold a certain level and be criticized, but:

But, for whatever reason, not everyone agrees that the ESB sculpt is worse; the dissent isn't loud enough. So, people like me are going to end up seeing an ROTJ figure release that'll just be more of the same - and we'll be disappointed.

That's some tinfoil level thinking right there :lol

Wait, what? You think my suggestion that the lack of unified dissent for this figure will lead to Hot Toys not making enough changes to the next one is "tinfoil level thinking?" Yeah, it's not like they've just used the same Vader sculpt from one version to the next but painted it differently; like say, oh . . . ANH v1 to RO to ANH v2.

I don't know what I was thinking; I can be so unjustifiably conspiratorial sometimes. :rotfl

Finally a properly futzed figure! :clap
It always amazes me how some collector's have absolutely no feeling for how to pose and futz a figure to make it look good.

The only thing I would recommend is to change that tunic, those pleats are a damn eyesore! :lol

I'm surprised nobody else seems to be bothered by those pleats!

All in one, I agree this doesn't look like the homerun it should have been. But some of the properly futzed pics make him look pretty good.
I'm still more than happy with my custom kaiyodo version, don't see any need to upgrade. Might have to pick up the chest armor and some of the hands once he goes up on TA though.

In a time crunch so not much time to type. I took this screenshot and then very crudely edited it with the built in iPad photo mark up option.

I artificially brightened it and then drew out the tusks on the figure and drew them back in roughly where they SHOULD be.

I’m just not seeing the disaster of a facemask some of you are. Tusks in the wrong place? Yes. As far as the eyes? Maybe the lenses aren’t sunk as deep into the sockets as they should be? But the general eye shape looks right. The R1 the eyes are too big and the bottom is too round. If anything I think the side by side R1 and ESB shows just how drastic the difference between the “mean” ANH and “regal” ESB looks are b/c I think both figures are pretty decent representations of their respective looks.

Thats because the head won't look any further down. At least thats what I've gathered from previous comments.
Yeah, that's another negative for this figure. That inaccurate helmet keeps ruining everything.

Still not seeing it. One thing I can see also is the edging or bordering around the eyes is thicker than the real Vader.

I don't know. I'm not a nit picker but I just fail to see a decent ESB likeness.

I still don't think I've seen anyone put the RO head on the ESB body. I'm sure it would probably make it look massively better.
Someone said earlier that they were afraid of breaking the ESB if they switched heads. Maybe someone will eventually try it.

Here's an illustration of what I was referring to about the eyes. I drew yellow outlines around the HT eyes and copied them over to the movie Vader image. You can see how the movie eyes are bigger and how the corners of them extend significantly further. The red lines are to show that the helmets are scaled to one another.

I could make it clearer if the original photo of the figure wasn't so low-resolution and grainy. But, it is what it is. Do you see what I mean about the size and shape of the eyes here?
