Could anyone confirm if the Dome is different to the Dome from the previous Vader's please ? For some reason it looks a lot better shaped.

Yeah this one has a shorter crown and is a bit longer in the back. If you look at the proto pics using the previous dome, it clearly gives the helmet a very different look.

Parts used:
Sideshow ROTJ Ver2 body, suit and electronics
Hot Toys Rogue One modified helmet and chest armor
Hot Toys ANH modified left open hand
Hot toys ANH Ver2 tunic
Hot toys ESB right hand and base
Unreal Customs wired cape

That looks great. I have a rogue one head and was wondering what you did to it. It's hard to tell, but did you somehow splice the esb bottom into the rogue one?

I know a lot of folks are complaining about the helmet and mask, but I gotta say, you get it at the right angle and it looks pretty f'n cool the way it is...

...IMHO anyway... :)

Best is subjective. I’d say it’s certainly in the running. Some prefer the R1 figure, some prefer the ESB figure. If price is a factor, ESB might be the way to go since it’s still available at retail. Otherwise, it’s up to you to research, evaluate, and decide. I will say, from what I’ve seen online, most people who actuall have both in hand seem to like the ESB figure better.

Personally I think the Rogue One figure looks magnificent and I always wanted one but it just never happened. Now, I have the ESB figure and it’s flipping spectacular. While you do get more for your money with the ESB version (even if you found the R1 for retail...) I don’t think you can really go wrong with either (which I can say for either HT ANH Vaders. Without some major repaint work and other customization *neither* of those are particularly attractive, or accurate, imo).

You guys and your BEST Vader talks......

Your clearly all delusional, as in fact, THE BEST Vader ever is by far a HT figure. It IS without a doubt the Hasbro electronic ROTJ Vader reveal figure.

Clearly this figure from 1998 is still the best on the market, at what I think was like $40 back then.

Keep posting whatever you think is the best to justify your choice....... :D

I put the Hot Toys ESB head on the SS Deluxe RotJ Darth Vader (V1). Couple of quick iPhone shots to show how it looks. I'll try and take some better ones over the weekend.

Can't remember if this was brought up already (probably was) but has anyone a theory on why Hot Toys added that silver button next to the buckle?

Because it's from ROTJ, like most things about this "ESB" release.

Thanks for the clarification. So many details on those figures, especially Vader and Fett, that you tend to loose track of what belong there and what is pure interpretation from the licencee. once again, it looks like HT took a shortcut with their design. At least, it means they are pretty much all set for next year ROTJ Vader reveal :monkey3

After spending some time fiddling with this guy, trying to get him into a pose I like, I'd have to say he's not really worth it.

The dome is really finicky, it's hard to get it to stay in place. The articulation is super restricted. To try and get him into a pose where he's leaning forward, reaching out to Luke, is pretty much impossible.

Rewatching the scene in Empire, Vader seems much more lean, his cape is pulled back, with the shoulder armor exposed, and it just seems more streamlined or fitted. The figure is too bulky, it just doesn't match that appearance. The look makes me think Vader is wearing football pads more than armor, adding bulk where it's not needed.

I agree with you regarding the helmet - drives me crazy how it nearly flies off whenever the figure is handled. I wish that would have been made a little more secure.

As for the body proportions, yes, this figure is a bit on the bulky side, but at least it doesn't look like the suit and gear isn't sitting an an obvious doll-body with thin limbs like so many other figures. As for the articulation, well, past experience has shown us anytime the character features any restrictive gear or armor, the figure's articulation suffers because of it. We get super posability or realistic proportions, never both.

All and all, this is just another HT figure that looks really great, but isn't quite all the way there. As far as I'm concerned, it displays well and has good detail. Glad to have it in the collection.
