Rey looks alittle doll-like otherwise the cockpit pic is brilliant!

Right now i'm about to decide if i'll buy ANH Chewy or TFA. Can't make the call, i'm stuck :(

I get the sense the TFA Chewie will be the better looking one right out of the box. But if you're willing to put in the time, the ANH Chewie can be futzed into a great looking figure as well. In the end it just comes down to which movie look you prefer.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Star Wars: Episode VII - Han & Chewbacca Collectible Figure

At least Spielberg has kept the original version of E.T. in the market and released both versions on Blu-Ray. Unlike what someone else did... :ohbfrank:

Actually if you bought the 2- pack DVDs that were released for a limited time, it contained the special edition and the laser disc version which was a cleaned up version of the originals pre "special ed"

As mentioned, just comes down to which look you prefer more. Or, if you're a completionist, which figures from a particular line you have more of. For instance, my SW collection is based around the ANH line from a nostalgic standpoint. Regardless if they come out with better versions, I'm going to stick with those.

Like others mentioned though, I'd be willing to wager that TFA Chewie will probably be better looking right out of the box.

Yeh, but that was a laserdisc version from the early 90s - i.e. inferior, unrestored video format, unremastered sound etc etc. Besides, changes were already made to the movies in the 80s - very minor changes, admittedly, but the 1993 laserdisc editions aren't actually the theatrical cuts. The only "clean up" that that video release received was the scrubbing of "Episode IV - A New Hope" from the Star Wars title scroll. Other than that, it's a straight, lazy ass laserdisc rip.

And the quality of those DVDs just do not cut it any more. It's Harmy or nothing at the moment.

The cockpit shot looks pretty cool. A lot cooler than the original ANH tease. I highly doubt they will make a OT and TFA cockpit. If that gets sold (and I am starting to think that it might now with these pictures) it will most likely be one cockpit that serves both scenes/trilogies. The cockpit did not seem different to me in the film or in this still.

Hope they have this scene at SDCC. I would like to see the cockpit again in person although I have absolutely no idea how I would display this in my apartment.

TFA Chewie looks really good (especially in the video) but Han looks freaking incredible. Best likeness of Ford ever at 1/6.

I have the complete ANH line and feel that I need to call it a day and stay OT. It's been a fun buying period but I need a break! :thud:
Trying to head towards a curated, uncluttered collection of the essentials. Less is more.

The cockpit is a weird one. I don't imagine it would have a huge market. It's huge, it'd hide your figures.

Did they go with the Mayhew underneath the Chewbacca suit for the TFA Chewie figure. The only way to know would be the eyes obviously...would anyone know?

In some scenes it was Mayhew but they also had another person who is younger and more mobile. Aside from the eyes, Mayhew has very a distinctive gait that has become a character trait of Chewie.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Star Wars: Episode VII - Han & Chewbacca Collectible Figure

Ok so I think I'm going to try and spring for the ANH Chewie this summer and if it sells out before I can save up I'll get the TFA version. So no stress.

I was a big backer of the TFA version, I still think it looks great. But I've been looking at a lot of ANH reviews and it looks like a great figure. One I'll have no doubt I'll enjoy. Also, I love Star Wars....but in terms of fav movies I only ever put Empire Strikes Back on my tops list. TFA I enjoyed but didn't love. So I'd rather have a Chewie figure from the OT...again if it runs out on SS by the time I have the money than so be it. But I'm hoping to nail down this ANH figure.

I will probably pick up Han sometime after it is released. He looks great and he is the only one that will not be returning in the next film. Already have Chewie and i'm happy with it.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Star Wars: Episode VII - Han & Chewbacca Collectible Figure

I just don't see the appeal of this.

Since its playing off the nostalgia of the original, why not get the original pair? TFA toys won't be worth squat in a few years.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Star Wars: Episode VII - Han & Chewbacca Collectible Figure

Are you sure? :wink1:

Can't trust the contracts any more.

Well, he's signed for both. I suppose that's not an iron clad guarantee. If the creative process goes in another direction it's possible he won't appear in the next two, but you better believe he'll get PAID for the next two! Just like when you decide to let your "star" quarterback go in the third year of a five year contract...

Most people are leaning towards the idea of Han appearing in flashbacks as they try to tell the story of Kylo and Rey. No chance they'd put him in a cool new outfit and try to sell another figure though, that would just be shameless profiteering.

Even if this is where you come down on things in your analysis, if it holds up through production, I think the head sculpt on Han will transcend any TFA or ST limitations. This could be a once in a decade figure and hold its value forever... It's THAT good.

Yeah I'm leaning towards this idea as well. I mean TFA in its own right was a big blockbuster and admittedly did much much better than the almost forgettable prequels (and a lot of what is memorable isn't great). But nothing can match the Original Trilogy. And like I said, Empire Strikes Back is THE Star Wars movie for me. I could watch that one over and over and not the others. Defines the characters, the Rebillion, Empire the best to me. TFA was good...but didn't really inspire me or tickle my creativity Iike Empire. I limit my figures and have basically just Fetts(4 versions), Stormtrooper, Snowtrooper, Clone trooper, Vader...so all bad guys. But I think I'll make room for one hero...Chewie. Too great of a figure and character. I could pass on the human characters as much as I love them. But Chewbacca is an amazing character and figure.
