I agree with QGF that when people who are good at futzing get TFA Chewie in hand we'll see some amazing transformations.

I was lucky enough to see a number of Chewies in hand. One thing I found interesting about ANH Chewie is the amount of variation in the colour of the fur - some were much darker than others - and even variations in the shape of the snout - on some the shape looked somehow flatter than on others.

Ok... I don't think you're saying anything I didn't say in my earlier post, except that you are doubling down on pessimism regarding what we're likely to see from in hand efforts from members. I never tried to suggest that ANH Chewie went from garbage to perfection with all its faults fixed with some pastel placement abd fur adjustments, but there's just no arguing that those improvements made a lot of people do a 180 on their assessment of the figure.

Yeah, I know. It's like you said, we're mostly in agreement but I'm not so optimistic.

You may turn out to be right about TFA Chewie. He might turn out to be irreparable. But the Internet does odd things with personality and ego on forums. I hope the just because you've publicly staked out the negative ground on TFA Chewie that you won't be married to that opinion no matter what we see down the line in an effort to not be seen as a flip flopper....I'll do the same. If it sux, I'll be happy to say so.

I'm not married to this opinion. I just wasn't satisfied with ANH Chewie's face and I doubt I'll be satisfied with this one too.

You can almost read bored HF's mind - "I'm getting how many million$ for doing this?"

Chewy's face is too much off.

This one seems more PT Chewy to me, but honestly, neither of the HT Chewies really look all that good in the face/head. The snout profile looks weird, eyes too close together, 'stache way too big, mouth weird. Half the time he looks like he's whistling and the other half trying to blow up some bubble gum.

It can be futzed (for hours,) it can be touched up (paint/pastel/make-up) to some decent effect, it can be placed in certain poses (mostly, looking down) where the problems are less visible, but even in the end these figures are not even close to a bullseye for Chewy's head.

Yes, it's an amazing, unbelievable thing they did a furred Chewy, but going that route created these issues, and no new release/redo of the figure will fix the inherent problems. The choice was - and always will be - a sculpted figure that's dead-on likeness wise (but has the weirdness of sculpted fur, however layered/intricately done) or a furred figure that looks a bit off/weird, especially in the face where so many very fine components/issues come together to form the likeness.

Given how consistent these Chewie's are, they should be able to keep making tweaks. By the 7th Chewie we will have an accurate one.

So you are saying the top left equates to ANH and the bottom right equates to whatever the new movie is.

I think the new Chewie is closer to any version than the original Hot Toys release.

Yup, TFA Chewy doll looks the best.

Movie TFA Chewy looks god awful.

Just wish TFA Chewy didn't look so much like a cat. He really just needs whiskers and a couple of little ears.

It's interesting how Chewy is a bit like Yoda in that they were never able to recapture how they looked in the OT. Something about the way they were made back then. All the PT Yodas looked awful and the PT and ST Chewy looked weird.

TPM Yoda puppet was the worst thing ever. Definitely improved when they went back and CGI'd him. Maybe they'll CGI Chewie.

Just preordered this one instead of the second run chewie. Not a nitpicker or that big of a Star Wars fan, but this one looks better and a lot closer to chewie on all the other films than the first released one.

Plus the articulated jaw is a plus

Likewise. TPM is probably my least favorite PT film and least favorite SW film in general. The only thing I really enjoyed about it was Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul.

I also want to see the 1/4 scale Vader and Stormtrooper....man those have taken a long time to be announced. Those 2 and one of the 2 Chewies are my future purchases.
