Do you think it looks nicer? ...guess it's also about which movie version you prefer.

So you are saying the top left equates to ANH and the bottom right equates to whatever the new movie is.

I think the new Chewie is closer to any version than the original Hot Toys release.

I think the fix that would go the furthest in improving the likeness would be decreasing the height of what would equate to Chewie's philtrum. The ANH one is more accurate in that regard.

I think the TFA is so much better than ANH.
Even though both Chewbacca's are not completely perfect, I give HT major credit for at least making Chewbacca with fur. And I'm sure in the future HT will make better updated versions

Well, yes. The colors of new Chewie are lighter than in the OT... And I like the face of the original better yes. But it's great you like the new one more and we have a choice.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Chewie II is so divisive. As much as I'm a fan of the original release, I think this one is better. They're both flawed, but I really think the colour and mouth on the TFA version is better, and with skilled futzing it'll be a better representation.

I'm starting to lean more in favor of the new Chewy. I think the greater density of fur around the face helps a lot. But, could you have found a worse pic of ANH Chewbacca? Lol

I was gonna maybe get a second ANH Chewie, but now I'll probably get a TFA Chewie to check out the difference. The color pattern on the face is more correct for any Chewie, but ultimately he looks more like a TFA Chewie than generic Chewie. Plus I wouldn't be able to stand trying to pass off the TFA bandolier and blaster as OT.

I was gonna maybe get a second ANH Chewie, but now I'll probably get a TFA Chewie to check out the difference. Yeah the coloration on the head might be a big improvement, but for me the problem comes when you factor in the rest of the body, and how overly bright and blonde the hair is on that. It might be pretty accurate to the TFA Chewie we saw on screen, but I'd have an awfully hard time buying it as the body of OT Chewie, and ultimately find the coloration on the ANH figure to be a lot more natural and true to his original look.

Although the hair on the head does appear to be a bit more muted, so I wonder if it might blend with the original body at all...

Yeah, I'll likely hold off to see in hand reactions, comparisons. The arms are really salon blond.

I'd be happy enough with one Chewie but the TFA Han looks pretty damn good so I'm almost certainly getting that. I guess he could shack up with Rey on the shelf, but Han and Chewie hadn't been that tied at the hip since ANH.

Hehe, yep must have been time consuming; finding the worst possible picture of ANH Chewie and then the best angle on prototype TFA Chewie to prove a point... ;-)

This is something I'm considering also, that I initially wasn't.

The original plan was to get ANH Han and ANH Chewie and just stick with TFA Han (I only want one representation of Chewie). But I might get TFA Chewie to pair with TFA Han and cancel ANH Chewie.

It's gonna take a bit of work, but I think there's a lot of futz potential here. In the right hands, I think this Chewie can be a serious winner...

Sorry, but this just impresses on me how irreparably terrible the figure's face looks.

You wouldn't have to so much futz it as completely modify it out of almost all recognition.

Yes this is the problem here, more than with the ANH version, the distance from nose to mouth is just gigantic and the nose is too small. Besides that it's perfect - same can be said of ANG Chewie.

The photo comparisons really made me see what's been bugging me about this figure, it's that gap between the upper lip and his nose, it just really throws the face off

I don't know why they can't do it right. We can see the issue so anyone can see the issue. Don't tell me making the sculpt is job for one person without any review from more people.

The top lip to the nose gap is too big. And the eye sockets are far too close together.

HT ANH Chewie - pinkish lips
ANH Chewie - brownish lips

HT TFA Chewie - brownish lips
TFA Chewie - pinkish lips
