Lol. I was VERY surprised to hear that term in the Avengers movie at the cinema.
I thought at the time that the Americans must have a different meaning for it.
But it turns out it just means the same thing everywhere...(It's just possible not everyone knows the term).

Well Whedon is on record as saying he felt it was some kind of achievement to be able to slip that one into the movie, as he guessed your average American wouldn't know what it meant.

That's not really casual though.... that event is just under black tie. He is wearing a long jacket, that is not casual in any sense of the word. Not black tie, but almost.

Withthat said, I am ALL FOR Puttin' On The Ritz Loki, he should be wearing that sarcastic smile he's sporting when facing off with Nick Fury, oh yes I want POTR Loki really, really badly! I almost want him worse than I do Thor movie-version Loki.

I was thinking how cool it would be to get all the Avengers figures and do a mock up of a 1/6 scale red carpet. With them all wearing tuxedos, or Scarlett in a slinky dress.
I have too much time on my hands...

Now that I would like to see.

On a side note a friend of mine had a business meeting at Shepperton studios the other week and saw/handled both Loki’s and Thor’s helmets (00-err) that was used in movies. Apparently they’re beautifully lightweight and thin.

My friend (who specializes in armor but didn't do these) said that he'd heard they'd had an awful trouble getting both these helmets resolved at the prototype stage, even though they had nearly a year to sort it.
