On mine at least the problem seems to be in the magnets in the faceplates, both are exactly the same and neither have polarities facing down, but sideways. This is in contrast to the faceplate on the Mk 2 AU which has the polarities facing down on the exposed side and allows it to sit in several different heights on top of the head

The Mk II faceplate actually sits perfectly fine on the IP head

This might illustrate what I am saying, the Mk 2 is on the far left, both IP plates in the middle and right. A magnet will sit flat along the exposed side of the Mk 2 magnet but neither wants to sit flat on the IP faceplates, they want to sit on the edge. This makes sense for the "closed" one if all you want is for it to click on the face and cover it, but the "open" one should want to sit where the magnets are on top of the head. If anyone out there has faceplates that seem to work and an extra small magnet lying around can try this out and tell me if the polarities actually should be different between the different plates, maybe the magnets are installed wrong on mine.

Sounds like your mags were glued on backwards roc. Just heat em up to get to remove them, drop a dollop of glue on the correct side, place on mask and let dry.

Just did that, was a big help. Its still finicky but it actually can sit in the right spot. With the magnets backwards it simply would not. If anyone else wants to fix it, mark the side of the magnet showing with a sharpie and pop them out- I could get it with just my fingernail. Glue them back with the marked side down and all better

Compared with where it is sitting here
