I have NO doubt in my mind that the production figures will be a vast improvement over the prototypes. They always are! Well... mostly. The first thing i thought when i saw the Spidey suit design in this movie was, "Its SO comic book like! This is going to be one incredible looking Hot Toys fig!" To be honest, i don't think these protos looks bad at all! Hot Toys know that Spider-man (no matter the quality of the movie) is TOO large a franchise to screw up. Look how sales were for SM3 figs, and that movie was %^&*&#%*$!!! Also, this probably wont be out before Q4. Even if it's released at all THIS YEAR, that will be an incredible record for HT. The lack of a Garfield sculpt doesn't bother me, as i never pose my figures without their retrospective masks. This is a PO for sure.

I love how this figure turned out, everything about it minus the red vinyl looks amazing. Just too bad if it's anything over $200 I probably won't get it.

The suit looks identical in construction to the first HT ASM figure. The vinyl and fabric combo has just been updated with the new design.
Problem is that's not what the new suit is made of. The first one was shiny like vinyl or rubber, the second one is rubber webbing over fabric like the Raimi costumes.
I think they just took the cheap route. The original Spiderman 1/6 costumes were amazingly made and pretty expensive and complex to manufacture.

Anyone remember the SM3 promo shots? And then what we got? One on the only reasons I have faith that some good tweaks are gonna be made by release. I really hope they nix the rubber and roll with the satin/spandex for the red parts. I can live without it since Im jonesin for a new Spiderman figure but HT will grab waaaaaay more customers if they fix that ****. Fingers crossed.

The snow jacket and scarf is actually inspired from the comic book Ultimate Spider-Man which the movie seems to be based upon.

These two movies are hardly based off Ultimate Spider-Man other than the fact that Aunt May is younger and that Electro is all blue instead of the green/yellow suit. I really really don't know how else it's Ultimate Spidey at all.

Oh crap. Don't remind me of the horrible SM3 suit. Owned it for a few days and sold it. The ASM1 suit was an easy pass as it looked more like an alien than SM.

The only thing bothering me about this is no head sculpt. Pre-ordered. It's the best looking version of Spidey hands down.

Both SM3 and ASM1 figures had significant adjustments made before their release. Also think about this, they are announcing this figure before the movie release. With no teasers no hype, they just dropped it out of nowhere. It was clearly rushed. They did the same thing with the Captain America figures, considering Winter Soldier has the star shopped on his arm and Steve Rogers has his neck shopped. They probably used vinyl on the proto not just cause it was cheap but it was fast. The priority was to get these figures up for order during the release of the film.

Im sure they will update it. As long as we work together to get our message across through email and FB about what needs to get changed

Good point. The final design was much more movie accurate than the proto. We shall see at this point. I'm expecting change. Figure doesn't come out for awhile anyway.

To be fair, Spidey is supposed to be skinny. Not buff but I guess lean. Check out Bagley's or McFarlane's Spider-Man. XD and the suit being vinyl isn't screen accurate as it does just look more cloth like.

Don't see why they couldn't make the material on the red parts the same as the blue.

This all depends on the actual release date. If it is indeed reasonably soon, then expect no changes. If it's a year off (ASM was delayed forever) then we can hope that HT fixes the suit inaccuracies. No guarantee either way though. And it's categorically not true that HT production versions are always better than the protos. Sometimes they are, and sometimes they are really not, at all..

Just curious, are you guys thinking the red is a vinyl material (Medicom) or the same they used for ASM1? I looked at all the high res pics last night and I'm convinced it's the same material as the last suit, which did have a sheen to it. Based on the Q2-Q3 release date, I wouldn't be surprised if they're well into production of this figure. Hot Toys might be thinking they want to make up for the extended wait for the last one and get this one out ASAP.

I think it looks exactly the same as the last suit, which makes it seem even more rushed.

I always thought Spider-Man was a smaller guy. He's not Logan or Cap. I would say that he and Flash would have similar builds. Very lean muscle.
