Well there's two magnets on his back that the shelf is supposed to adhere to: The middle of his harness on his upper back and the one underneath the suit on his lower back. When attached to both, it should line up straight.

If after doing that and the star on his shield is not completely straight to where one of the tips is facing upward, it could just be the angle at which the star is painted on the shield in comparison to the handles/magnets.
