The old shields were plastic, with electroplated chrome paint. The red paint didn't adhere to the chrome well, thus the flaking problems

I briefly had one of the older shields back when I intended to get Stealth Cap. Felt really cheap and thin compared to the metal ones. Pretty much the day I got it, it started flaking.

Thanks for clarifying! Never into Cap figures until this one. But I do remember hearing about the paint flaking problem as much as the pink panties problem with Mark IV & VI. This will most likely be my definitive Cap in my tiny collection.

AoU is a good start, they're only going to get better. I sold all my older Caps except Steve Rogers and I dont regret it.

Is this the first Cap with a metal shield? Or do all the other Caps except for TFA has metal shields, too?

The die-cast shields were first introduced with TWS line (strike suit, GA, civvy Steve). Like others have stated, they were a vast improvement from the old, plastic shield. The red paint on the shield from TFA Cap flaked horribly.

I think the first avenger cap has a metal shield. Which is why it flaked.

For the life of me i cannot recall if it was diecast on tfa but i remember it being light so i guess not. Ga cap was first diecast shield i think. Loved the bd plastic one.

Not sure why I thought one of those earlier ones was diecast. My bad. I am sure that Aou cap was not the first one though. I think. Lol

I've had this guy for some months now, but only recently found some time to take him out of his detolf for a small photo session:

Great figure all around, up there with some of the best from Hot Toys when it comes to the sculpt. Now my problem is that after these photos I'm feeling again the temptation of completing the original Avengers lineup :gah:

Because there were many many caps before aou cap. GA cap was the first die cast shield i am sure. I remember everyone wanting that shield. After that is strike suit cap and then aou cap.

Awesome pix! Thanks for sharing! Now I have IM, Cap & Widow...soon will have Hill and I'm keeping a close eye on Fury (Yes, pun intended). I am seriously interested in WM III. My son has been asking me when I am going to get Thor and Hawkeye...so far, not much interest in those two. Will definitely get the Wasp when she comes out...

Yeah, mine flaked before I even got to display it. Some bits of the red paint flaked off out of the box just from the static of the plastic wrapping around the shield, unfortunately. I purchased the figure brand new in box but it was earlier this year, so the shield had been wrapped up for some time. I'm certain the shield is plastic though, being that it is very light. TFA shield was a bust out of the box for me, so my TFA Cap is wielding the clean shield that came with the first Avengers Cap, while the first Avengers Cap has the battle damaged one that he also came with.
