Will and Elizabeth are obviously the main characters next to Jack but I think it's unrealistic to expect Hot Toys to ever make them again. Maybe if Inart had the license we'd see figures of them but I doubt the couple would sell as well as a Barbossa or Davy Jones.

My hope is that Hot Toys listens to the hundreds of people asking for a Davy Jones because he would be the most visually striking figure out of all them and quite frankly I'd be happy to call it a day on Pirates just having Jack and Davy.

Just imagine a Davy with SERS, cloth clothing with the sea life done in a similar fashion to the spider man and superhero suits along with some sculpted parts, his base could mirror Jack's facing the other way and have the Dutchman's helm with some Kraken tentacles coming out of the water. The accessories would be fairly simple, the dead man's chest with his heart and key, Calypso's music box, Norrington's saber and maybe a telescope.

Davy would also be the easiest one in terms of licensing since he doesn't have any likeness rights attached to him and can be licensed based on the franchise itself not any specific movie as has been the case with some of his most recent figures. Hopefully Hot Toys is listening.
That's perfect! It would make an awesome display with Jack. Now pitch that to Hot Toys.

Oh, I certainly don't expect any of these to get made. Maybe Davy Jones based on the fan demand, and possibly more from InArt whenever they get around to the POTC license -- which might not be until after the series has been rebooted once or twice. I'm just saying from the perspective of who would I buy.

I would if I had Howard's email lol

Inart probably won't get any Disney licenses any time soon, whatever contracts Hot Toys has in place it has them covered for a while. I think the reboot that is now seemingly confirmed will just decrease the chances of seeing future PoTC figures unless it's done by a third party. Hot Toys probably isn't inclined to anyone other than Jack and Disney wants to bury their association with Depp, honestly I'm amazed this figure even got made, it increases my perhaps foolish hope that they will make a new Davy Jones at least.

So…from what I gathered…figures from the earlier films aren’t produced today because the rights to them are more expensive?

Does that mean if InArt wanted…they can fork over however much Disney wants and produces figures from the more desired films? Or does HT still have a strangle hold over the entire POTC IP?

Agreed! I've mentioned this a few times in the past as well as earlier in this thread as it seems well within HT current capabilities to really knock a knew Davy Jones out of the park.

I would guess HT still has the stranglehold on just about anything in this collectible world for Disney owned IPs. Regardless of how anyone feels about JND (I'm not mentioning them to start any sort of debate on their likenesses or how much they charge so lets not go there), but even they couldn't get the full Indy license. All Disney allowed them was The Last Crusade and said if it did well enough that they might allow them more stuff later.

Not sure how much truth there is to this next bit, but I've also heard in the past that Disney doesn't want competing products at the same or similar scales which is why only HT is the only one currently making 1/6. That might not be such a big thing anymore though b/c Iron Studios and Sideshow both make 1/4 scale Star Wars statues, PCS is making a 1/3 Star Wars statues and I believe Prime1/Blitzway will also be entering Star Wars statues soon.

Why would Disney have a problem with competition? They'd still get their cut. And I fail to see how Hot Toys ignoring Jones is good business - if anything, it might even drive more sales of Jack.

No, idea. Just sharing what I've heard. The JND part is direct from their spokesperson, Daniel, who does a lot of their Youtube videos and I believe (though could be wrong) works with obtaining the licenses.

Disney not liking competing products on the market is just something I've heard over the years in this hobby which is why I prefaced it with not being sure of the validity of all that. And, like I said, it could've been that way in the past but not so much now with the examples I gave. Not to mention Bandai, SH FigureArts and the MAFEX MCU lines of comparable figures that would not only be competing with each other but also the Marvel Legends stuff. ThreeZero's Iron Man line that would sort of be competing with those, too, as I think they are the same or similar scales but not really being released at the same time as those others.

But as far as 1/6 and larger, there really aren't too many competing products. Sideshow, Iron Studios and Queen Studios have made MCU stuff though I don't believe any of those products have been released at the same time to have really competed with each other.

And I fail to see how Hot Toys ignoring Jones is good business - if anything, it might even drive more sales of Jack.
Agreed. But, we all know HT and logic tend to not go hand in hand. I mean, if HT really want to push the DMTNT license, they can sort of say Davy Jones is in that movie due to the end credits scene

More images some posted but this is just amazing.

I'm so pleased they've done this, as I've never had a Jack figure before. The artisan is obviously amazing, and I love the real dreads and all the details including the cloth over the bandana... but one thing I can't unsee (and part of the reason I went with the standard, as well as cost obviously lol) - is that the sculpted bandana looks like it's pulled tight around his head. Against his forehead and pressing his hair flat on the sides. It's the right *shape* - and it has sculpted crinkles where it's pulled tight round the sides.

The artisan one kinda looks like he's wearing a massive pudding bowl over his head. An upside down R2D2 dome. A 1950s style motorbike crash helmet.

It's just too round and dome-ey.

Love the cloth on it though.

Not sure if I should wait for my waitlist to confirm or just pay the non-refundable deposit for a deluxe edition, all things considered. How quickly do you guys think this will sell out?

Personally I think deluxe and standard will be available for preorder for months.
But really, no one can know that.

Now that's a fresh take. I actually feel that way somewhat too but the coolness of that print and the way it completes the look counterbalances what you are pointing out for me and the sculpted one doesn't do a good job of capturing that cool print. Also there's the phenom of proto vs. production. We'll have to see how it looks in hand.

Actually I'm about the furthest thing from a bandana wearing fellow you could find but because that print is so cool, I'd probably wear it IRL if I could find a good replica!

Sadly, yes. Can't deny. Hoping it might look better in hand when its finally produced.

Inart have actually made a huge and positive impact on the hobby.

Rooted hair figure will soon overtake all my sculpted!! 😂 I'm very nervous about Hot toys artisan Joker as that hair needs work but this shouldn't need futzing.

Oh the impact of the figure on a shelf will completely make up for any slight oversize/misshapen scarf. He'll look spectacular!
Watching the movies again, notice mostly the bandana does not look tight to his head but rather like it is covering and unkempt thicket of dreads... which it is. So yeah probably more like artisan than sculpted. Also now I want the goat as an accessory 🏴‍☠️🐐

I stand by the pudding bowl comment 🤷‍♂️ it should definitely appear tighter against his forehead and especially the sides as they go up the side of his head. It should be more of a 'rounded pyramid' shape, not an R2D2 dome. But hey, it's still an incredible figure and you will all be happy with it.
