1/6 Hot Toys - POTC5 - Jack Sparrow Figure (Artisan Edition + Regular) Collectible Figure

I noticed the Artisan hairpiece was more detailed and had more trinkets in it in the promotional shots but didn't really feel like I was missing out on much just getting the deluxe but the pictures you posted definitely sting. There's considerably less detail and way less trinkets on the braids in the sculpted version. The cloth bandana obviously looks more realistic as well, even if it's bulky. I wish Hot Toys had managed to apply the cloth bandana and trinkets on the sculpted version as well but I guess once you have him set up with the helm and all the stuff on him, you won't really notice the absence of such small things.

Yeah. I'd have to go back and stare at lots of screen shots to see what's accurate anyway re the dreads and trinkets. Never studied the looks in detail, I just get every JS that HT has put out. Because, Jack Sparrow.

Makes me more irritated that I missed the artisan tho. Sort of. Too many other figs like Andor coming down the line to worry about it much.

English review, pretty annoying that they made the sword plastic this time not diecast. They definitely cheaped out on some parts of the figure.

Thanks for the heads up on this... just nabbed a diecast sword from the DX06 on eBay for $20.00, lol

I messaged Hot Toys letting them know there's interest in Davy Jones and I got a reply saying that they would forward the information to the design team, nothing will probably come of it but it's something I guess.

LOL - Cassian, Luthen, etc. It'll add up. + V2 Winter Soldier. And I'm waiting to pay off Artisan SW and BW.
And Baylan and a 1/4 Obi. Asmus' Thranduil.

So, on the one hand while it sux to miss an Artisan, on the other hand, it's 200$ to offset for like, Andor. Just hope Winter Soldier isn't an Artisan, can't take the stress of that *&^%$ queue system.

Oh, yeah, and the InArt Legolas via PopCultcha. While for some this is small potatoes, yah gotta know your limits.

I PO’d both Artisan and Deluxe (the latter got first before secured an Artisan) but both are actually amazing.

Will probably give us my Deluxe PO with OSK if anyone wants to take once the invoices are sent.

I’m in the same boat. I think I’ll end up keeping the Deluxe and either sell the Artisan or hopefully use it as trade piece lol.

One big improvement for me on the artisan, even with the wider bandana, is that the braids/dreads hang much more naturally. On my DX15 it always bugged me a bit how they flare outward from the bottom of the bandana.

It speaks to Depp's talent and ability to craft a character that transcends the universe and films it's a part of. He's the one who curated the outfit, the trinkets, the rings. He turned what was meant to be a side character in TCoBP into the face of the franchise.

As far his outfit I kind of dig how it has evolved across the films, Depp kept bringing and wanting to add new things to the look, each with a meaning of it's own. Almost every single thing you see on his person isn't something the studio wanted but something Depp himself personally wanted to add to the character. So the DMTNT look, while probably belonging to the worst film of the franchise, is the most complete and encapsulates all of Jack's journeys.


They've made a bunch of PoTC video games, I mostly recall the PS3 game adaption of At World's End, Pirates of The Caribbean Online and the LEGO game of the first 3 films and the 4th one. I really enjoyed playing the last two back in the day, the LEGO game was very charming and even had Depp "voicing" the minifigure version of Jack.

Ah the lego games. Now that's a throwback. Charming as hell indeed.

Its really outrageous that they took metal swords away. First Deadpool now Jack. And an Artisan, their most premium product. But we still gotta hunt down accessories from a 13 year old figure.

I don't get it either especially with the buttons on the vest, it's almost like hot toys want us to buy parts from older figures.

However I am looking forward to having Jack back in the collection.

I have to agree with everyone else, I'm thrilled I finally get to add a Jack to the collection but it sucks that they cut some corners when compared to their previous Jack figures.

The vest is probably the most questionable part of the figure. Printed buttons are usually something you see on 1/12 clothed figures because it's the only way to make buttons look good at that scale, but on a 1/6 figure? It honestly seems lazy. The sword not being die-cast is a shame but it's most likely mandated by the licensor, same as the rum missing.

If I were to improve this figure with Hot Toys parts here's what I'd get:
- DX06 hat
- DX15 vest
- DX15 rum
- DX15 Die-cast sword

I don't think I'm going to buy any extra parts for this though, the prices for some are ridiculous and I don't feel like paying shipping and taxes for small accessories.

Yeah at the point you start buying down broken down parts you might as well then just buy DX15.

I mean the sword with taxes is £78 I could pick up the DX15 for around £220 -£240 so doesn't make much sense.

Also the rooted has all the cool hair trinkets that the sculpted is missing.

Yup, also these are things that won't really affect the overall look and presence of the figure in your collection. The buttons will be pretty much entirely covered by the belt and the pistols, you won't really notice that the sword is plastic on display and I'll probably keep it in the scabbard anyway so it doesn't even really matter. The only thing I'm still considering getting is a new hat because that is the one thing that truly just looks hideous in my opinion.

Curious if the DX06 Hat would even fit on the Artisan head sculpt with all that rooted hair bundled up under it.
