From what I recall, Depp was directly involved in the figures back then, everything needed his approval and he definitely received money from collectibles using his likeness. With DMTNT we know he doesn't and Disney is able to keep making stuff with his likeness without having to pay him or even be involved with him.
Me neither, which is why I heavily considered dropping $700 on the DX15, as if by a miracle, Hot Toys teased their new Jack a week or so after. I also really wanted Davy Jones but that thing goes for even crazier prices so I gave up on him. The knock-off "Captain Octopus" also goes for crazy prices these days.
Yeah they could've just used any of the countless stills of Jack to make that quick poster for the convention, it doesn't really confirm anything at all.
From what I've researched this is a reissue from 2023 but the figure first released over a decade ago and it was based off Dead Man's Chest, it seems like it might have been the final figure in any scale based off a film from the original trilogy. I used to think they could make characters based off the franchise itself too, because the Beast Kingdom Davy Jones figure didn't specify which film it was based on in the promotional material, but when I checked the listing and their statue version, both products are listed under the At World's End license. I bet the Revoltech reissue is probably listed under the DMTNT license as well, unlike first run which was DMC.I think it's still telling that it's labeled as just "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise instead of a particular film in the franchise as I believe the films fall under the same licensing umbrella.
Like this Kaiyodo action figure. Just branded as "Pirates of the Caribbean" but is still based off his look in DMC / AWE

My personal issue with the later designs is it gets too busy. And the dreads get ridiculously long and not really a fan of the blonde.
I like all the trinkets and items Depp kept adding to the outfit lol but obviously I do agree, a Jack from any of the films in the original trilogy with a proper hat and spot on likeness would be a sight to behold! My personal favorite look is DMC/AWE. Just the perfect amount of trinkets and belts. And the hair hasn't taken over.
Pretty much how I feel; even being a costume junkie and long time fan I couldn't line up specific differences. Jack's hair got more bleached and longer/more dreads as time passed and more tats. Past that I'd have to do some studying. It hadn't mattered because I was buying all the HT figs anyway. I was happy the likeness got better and better.
That’s the boat I’m in. The prototype coat does not look as good as the tailoring on the final, now the coat is on my radar, and by the time the parts are added up, it’ll cost as much as a whole figure, so now I’m working on rounding up cash for DX37/38.I might have to hunt down that treasure chest to add to my chest collection as well.

I think if they wanted to do a COTBP version they've had already done it for this release becouse the previous one was also DMTNT. Think rights are involved here and it proberly cost them to much to get the rights to do a COTBP. Less money to make. Leave it and make a Davy Jones or Barbossa inatead becouse i already spend so much on this sparrow

and for me its fine to just have a representation of Jack sparrow. For most folks i think doesnt really matter from what movie.

Even to get every single detail right from a movie is hard you wont find that on a stock figure, you proberly have to go the custom route. I mentioned this before there are many differences from scene to scene in a movie becouse it wasnt shot in one way through. So the clothing/weathering/make up/hair could vary in scenes. Maybe if you want to create a specific scene from that movie its more do able. Still a difficult thing to achieve.
