Even to get every single detail right from a movie is hard you wont find that on a stock figure, you proberly have to go the custom route. I mentioned this before there are many differences from scene to scene in a movie becouse it wasnt shot in one way through. So the clothing/weathering/make up/hair could vary in scenes. Maybe if you want to create a specific scene from that movie its more do able. Still a difficult thing to achieve.

Dont get me wrong. Its awesome to have a piece that is accurate all the way. But there's a big price tag to achieve that.
Oh I know nothing will ever be perfect at this scale. But having a Jack from OST or DMTNT showcasing the longer blonde dreads and wrong piece of eight (and on the opposite side of the bandana in OST for that matter) and wrong blue vest with pattern...X on cheek etc and wanting a CotBP or DMC/AWE, those things stand out to me. They aren't correct for those films. That's what I'm saying.

I couldn't care less if Darth Vaders tusks are 3 mm too wide or there's a small gap between his mask areas etc. Those minute details meh.

He said it in the trial, you'd have to dig through the videos of him testifying.

Yeah, not going to do that :p

My point being, he probably said a lot of stuff during the trial to make himself seem sympathetic and make the other parties look bad. Is he "not seeing a cent" because Disney isn't paying him, or is it because his management is using all his Disney royalties to pay for his legal bills and wine collection? Or was he not seeing it because his management was not giving him the money?

He was pretty open about his drug and alcohol abuse on trial, what I recall was Heard's lawyers were trying to prove Disney didn't drop him from the Pirates franchise because of Heard's allegations, but because of Depp's history of drug and alcohol abuse.
Depp testified that despite his tumultuous behavior, Disney was more than happy to keep him on board and they were already talking about making Pirates 6 before Heard came forward with her allegations of suffering domestic violence and abuse. It was only after the fact that, in Depp's words, Disney cut ties with him and dropped him from the franchise all together but kept producing merchandise, dolls and showcasing Jack Sparrow at Disney World, without his involvement in any of it.

Very true bud its not perfect they could have improved on those things. Especialy the blonde locks, they are simply missing somehow. Still pleased with what they've deliverd. Could they improve on certain aspects? Definitely

Disney Pirates made Depp as much as Depp made Pirates. I mean he was a well know actor before Pirates but he didn't reach epic level of Stardom until Pirates. My assumption would be the first film he likely didn't have much pull in the contract as he probably would have with the following sequels. So if there's any film that Disney would have 100% control over the image of Jack I'd say it's the first film.

Whether he gets royalties in that or not I have no idea. Maybe the contracts for the older films got renegotiated later down the road who knows?

All speculation maybe Depp did have a say in the likeness of this release? Maybe he did or didn't. No idea.

For a DMTNT Jack I think it's more than fine. It's just not the Jack I want in the collection. I'd rather have versions from the first 3 is what I'm saying.

I take it that anything that's been produced after they cut ties with him, was without his involvement, that includes the new Hot Toys Jack. Also I don't think Hot Toys had to renegotiate the license to make the figure again, it seems like they pretty much did it because they were about to lose it and to add another figure to their Artisan portfolio.

To get Depp back, he likely cut a very lucrative deal for DMTNT and maybe that's why he only approves those toys -- he gets a bigger cut.

Anyway, my grail Sparrow would be the original long-forgotten COTBP look -- more simple, gray pants, plain blue vest. Before he started collecting things for his outfit.

To piggy back off this I'd imagine the contracts went something like this if they aren't all under the same umbrella.

Pirates 1 (they never planned for sequels as stated such as they didn't save anything from the film hence Jacks fully new outfit)

Pirates 2 and 3 contracted together since they were filmed to make a trilogy. Depp may have signed on for more sequels with this contract if not

OST and DMTNT would then be their own separate contracts.

I think I remember back when OST was in production that it was going to be the start of another trilogy or was that supposed to be DMTNT? Crazy to think this is a 20 year old franchise already. 😳

I'm curious do we think this Jack sold well? So we think that Hot toys will do more pirates?

It's strange that this came out of nowhere, really hope they do more of the line. It's weird they did other characters but not the ones people wanted! :slap

I believe it's sold out everywhere and getting rave reviews and it's HT so HT milks.

I'd say you're probably right on that considering the studio was very scared of Depp's casting and his ideas of what Jack should look in the first place. In the "Art of..." book, initial designs for Jack Sparrow were a more handsome and clean looking, Errol Flynn in Captain Blood type pirate

I think they were about to lose the license so they made this Jack to keep it and to make a new Artisan figure. They reused a lot of their old molds on this so it was not a whole lot effort and why he released so fast now that I think about it. The figure seems to have sold very well and is in high demand in China and overseas, whether Hot Toys thinks that would justify getting the license for other characters is entirely up to them. I personally don't think they will but I'd love to be wrong. If they want to reuse molds I'd reckon they could pretty much reuse every accessory and crab parts from their old Davy Jones release and just make a new head, base and clothes.

Thankfully Depp got his way and created a character that surpassed the franchise and Disney itself. :rotfl

Gotcha.... well good luck then😉 quite a challange but nothing is impossible.
I'm more than good with my CotBP Jack, but I'd really like an Artisan DMC/AWE to go with him.

EDIT: Not that I wouldn't welcome an Artisan of COTBP as well.

Most seem to not care, but those that do, notice the differences in the costume.

Like there's folks that can pinpoint the small changes in Darth Vaders costume/helmet from film to film where that doesn't bug me. I see Vader I see Vader. Jack on the other hand has distinct different looks from film to film (with DMC/AWE being the only two that are the same from film to film).
I can get pretty tight about details - or lack of them, depending. And have absolutely depended on collectors/fans/cosplayers at times to get more detailed information. Plus, for me it's interesting.

Not sure why Jack is more or less Jack to me. Maybe it's because the overall character look is freewheeling IMO and who knows what he is tying into his hair or what stuff he will add to his belts. But you can bet if I were doing a custom I'd wanna know, right down to the fabrics. Or if I were an uber-cosplayer. Tho I was on a site where even the cosplayers weren't sure the number of dreads he had.

Also since I ended up owning all of them anyway😁. But I'd go for a COTBP Jack, for sure. Simpler, darker hair. I'd like having the whole arc on the shelf, like my Captain Americas.

One rumor on YT? was Depp would only return to Disney if Disney apologized. If that were true, why not. Disney already apologized to Depp way back over melting down over his Sparrow portrayal. Until he stole the film:lol. Disney blows, Dior stood by Depp the whole time and got the last laugh. Meanwhile Disney does stupid stuff and turns out movie and series bombs. :pfft:

I mean if he keeps drinking his money away he'll eventually need one of those big fat Disney pay checks.

I'm in the never say never group.

How bout Disney gets Lily Rose on board for a Pirate film. Cast her as Jacks daughter. Get him to come back for one more handing the torch so to speak. I'd be ok with that.
