1/6 Hot Toys - POTC5 - Jack Sparrow Figure (Artisan Edition + Regular) Collectible Figure

My ability to see the quality in these portraits is very tainted by the number of Jack Sparrow images I have looked at over the years. I am unhealthily obsessed with the character lol

Wow, that lantern shot from Maulfan is ABSURD. Easily one of the most believable figure shots I've ever seen.

As with the DX15 though, the first thing I'm going to do is remove the stupid alligator belt. I've always hated that thing.

I've always planned to display the DX15 and the Artesian in some combination of jacket/no jacket/hat/no hat. So I think I'll find a place for each sculpt I prefer in hand.

I think if your looking at the dx15 sculpt and seeing more younger Depp then you probably prefer how he was in the first 3 films. Which isn't bad but again this one is based on his DMTNT older age so it's preferable in this case solely on that.

DX15 is also based on DMTNT.

But yeah, you’re making my point, I guess some of us want a Jack figure from the first 3 films ideally

Probably. They look the same to me, the new one has better paint and eyes, and seems to be a bit bigger. They both look like John depp so I'm happy with it either way. Unless someone with better eyes than me can tell me what makes this a new head besides the paint.

I have DX15 too and the features are much better captured and sculpted in the new one. You can already see a brutal difference in the eyes... it has a look that seems to have life.

I’m sure many would like an all encompassing Jack Sparrow portrait to fit their preferred sequel or look. But-at this point I’ve become a broken record -not even this new portrait can pass for Depp’s aged face in DMTNT (not to mention the weight gain).

The issue stems from the lower portion of the face. Especially the lips. It protrudes a bit much and the M shape is too prominent. And the cheeks…what cheeks? It’s way too defined. Almost like he’s sucking in the cheeks so he can appear skinnier..or perhaps a more humorous take:

Eh…like RRX said, the smiling sculpt is all one needs I suppose…but to me thats like getting only half the figure. God I wish JC Hong can retire so another creative director can step in.

Looks like the new Jack had a buccal fat removal procedure done. I can’t unsee it now.. Jack’s face is full in the films……… even in DMTNT…

Yeah true about the Dx15 but I felt they made it closer to just a mix between young and old. I definitely wish we get a COTBP or DMC/AWE version to call it done. Still I'll be happy with this figure.

Marked cheekbones have always been a fairly characteristic feature of Johnny Depp, from the first trilogy when he was younger as well. I would say that its most important feature is that bone structure. The sucked-in cheeks are even a grimace of the character himself.
I had already commented on this in terms of faithfulness to the DMTNT look, it is not correct. Hot Toys idealizes portraits and they do this a lot with Jack Sparrow. You are not going to see a Hot Toys portrait of Johnny Depp with a swollen and aged look.

For me personally, I planned on using the new smirking sculpt from this new release which I’m assuming a lot of others here are as well, so I glad it came out looking as great as it does. I think it has the best likeness to Depp so far. While the Dx15 serious sculpt does also have a good likeness, I feel like it’s too much of an angry expression which I’ve never seen Jack Sparrow as being that serious and angry of a character. I don’t feel like I’d use it over either of the 2 new ones since it also looks a bit too tanned compared to the new paint apps.
