Well if you present the figure in its entirety, sure. How can they say it’s NOTJack Sparrow?

But show them this?

Tbh, I don't think most people could reliably identify a disembodied face like that anyway, particularly one that has makeup on.

We're part of a very niche community that analyzes these things down to the millimeter, so of course we can find fault if we examine anything long enough. I'm not sitting here telling you that's a dead match for Johnny Depp, but it's a lot closer than it is further away.

Mmm, disagree with you there. If you show anyone this-

They can absolutely tell you it’s Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. Thats if the person is familiar with the actor, of course.

Sure we’re a niche community, but the analyzing and scrutinizing typically is reserved for the minute details, such as button size, hat size, if a strap or belt is the right color etc etc.

However when it comes down to portraits, which is usually the main selling point (for me at least) of a figure because it’s supposed to look like the actor…well, scrutinizing happens when it doesn’t resemble the actor right? This isn’t a question if the hairline is too far back or the skin tone is off though. At this moment, the resemblance isn’t there for me at all and the only highlight of this new figure is the smiling portrait…and that to me is unfortunate because IMO, that means you’re only getting half a figure, know what I mean?

If it’s close enough for you, that’s cool. Legit glad you can enjoy it. But I feel we’re in a time where we have InArt and other companies doing phenomenal work, that HT should be able to produce a Jack Sparrow that leaves no room for error.

So the wily Jack is supposed to have a fat face?

No thanks, I'll stick with the Dior frontman chiseled look. 😁
I used to want this Cinemaquette statue so bad especially after seeing one repainted. Currently, very happy to hear that JND are making a 1/3 statue of him. Hopefully, it comes out as good (to me) as their Reeve and Cavill Superman pieces.

As a fan of the character was fascinated by the idea of the Cinemaquette until I saw the chubby cheeks. WTF. I've always thought of Depp as sharply cheekboned at least when he hadn't put on the recent pounds during that fiesta of a trial. And I do mean fiesta like when fans brought alpacas to the courthouse.

Could be my first JND if they nail it.

I always like to hear what a non-collector has to say. I ask my wife all the time.

The only thing she asks me in return is: if I say it's good, will you stop buying them?

My wife is a huge Johnny Depp and Harrison Ford fan as well. She also likes Heath Ledger and Viggo Mortenson so I tend to show her these figures to get an outside subjective opinion on what she thinks looks the best.

Does she think your DX15 Sparrow is better or worse than InArt Aragorn...?

The challenge is set!
