Finally had a chance to swap in the new leather belts, so glad I have them, because this was the fate of the DX15 belts. Just undoing them ripped up the pleather coating, so I just finished it off.

Jeez, that belt is just from 2018? I fear now what awaits me. I had planned to keep the 15 as a 2nd, coated version.

This happened to mine as well when I removed the DX15 belts I was using on my custom to replace with the new DX belts. I just end up keeping the buckles in case I wanted to make my own real leather ones done the road.

I'd suggest to get a new baldric/chest belt as well b/c it most likely won't be long for that one to deteriorate as well. Happened to my DX06 one from what I remember. The DX15 one is still fine, but I wasn't going to leave that to chance.

And as far as coloring the new coat, your original is really good. Honestly, I see only minimal reason to redo the process on your new coat.. but good luck, mate. I'm eager to see what you do.

I think I still have a bloody 2nd DX15 coat somewhere that I had planned to follow your lead and color correct. Now that's moot.

It’s been a journey to get right. My DX06 coat was a bit too gray and more a cool shade, then my first DX15, I thought adding a touch of green to the gray might get the movie look, but it was too green looking. My second DX15 was finally a success.

I have a good handle on the color now, but this go around, I want to try a less heavy painting method to see if I can retain the softness of the fabric, the only downside of painting has been a stiffening of the material. This go, I’m going to try a dry brushing technique I use for doing figures to avoid brush strokes. Hopefully that’ll be enough to change the color without saturating the fabric too much with actual paint.

see if you can find the same/similar colors you used for your formula but with Angulas leather paints. Clothing won't get stiff, especially if it's diluted enough. You'll just want to add in Angelus Duller into the mix to remove any shine as the paints are naturally semi-gloss finish.

Do they deteriorate only when you try to undo them? Maybe I just shouldn't touch mine?
Mine started with the tip of the brown belt, it ripped a bit from feeding it through the loop the last time I redid his belts, then a chunk broke off when I was posing him for a photo and bumped the plastic fur pelts off, and now finally taking the belts off to swap out, it was a disaster. Granted, the lighter belt is extremely light under, but still passable, and the dark belt is just as dark as the pleather, they would work well enough to not be a total loss.

That said, if you futz with the belts at all, odds are the pleather will peal.

So... about the hat

MMS42 style
DX15 size
make with leather

is this everyone wants?
Would a wig with real hair and a fabric bandana also be possible? (Which would also fix the thickness of the dreadlocks of the Artisan version)
Something like this:

I think this would be interesting for many people, especially those who weren't able to get the Artisan version.

A bit like the Batman Hot Toys wig you sold on OSK

That’d be interesting but at that point, I’d personally suggest something that’s (more) accurate to the first 3 films where the dreadlocks and hair are a bit darker color and shorter length. Also, the Piece of Eight on the bandana. However, I figure this would be more work rather than “recasting” the DX39 head piece.

@Gipetto0812 seems to be the expert.

MMS42 in style and size seems to work.

I think sculpted with a solid paint job would be preferable, and more durable. Retains a better shape as well.

Just recast 42 with a great paint job. I think people would be happy with that.

I also would like a bottle of rum, as others have mentioned!

I would say base everything on MMS42, style and size, it would work on all DX Sparrows, DX06, DX15 and DX37/8/9.

I would prioritize appearance over material, if it doesn't work to produce multiple hats in real leather with the right appearance, then I would suggest a sculpted hat.

I don't speak for the masses, but I would imagine the highest priority is how good Jack looks on the shelf. The novelty of what material the hat is made of is irrelevant if the hat doesn't have the right look.

Aside from the hat, my only request is please make it a small accessory pack and include a bottle of rum with the hat!
A rum bottle would be great too!
I personally really liked the one custom hat someone posted in this thread, it's shape is accurate to the last two films and has the fold in the back.

I actually agree with you. This is better for the later 2 films. My only issue with this custom hat is that the bottom edges/folds (where the hat meet the bandana) are too thick.

Most accurate to the first 3 films would probably be a ~10-15% upscale of the original medicom hat to be honest.

But, in general, I think the MMS42 as is, as far as size and sculpt, is the best overall to work for all films without getting overly specific. And probably best for most ppl. Just needs better paint apps than the stock hat.

I’m giddy about going back home and unboxing the MMS42 set and taking a look at the hat and vest.

I should probably just get the DX15 body and hands while I’m at it too to color match the DX15 faceplate I’ll be using – I still have one more payment left on DX38 from Sideshow 😅

Which rum bottle is better, MMS42 or DX15?

Why wouldn’t they include that with DX37/38/39?
They’re basically the same, the only difference is the more matte finish of the MMS vs the glossier finish of the DX15, so more about preference really.

As for the why- mostly likely a Disney policy that changed in the last 6 years much like how they wouldn’t allow Classic Loki to have the chalice b/c oh no, alcohol implications.

Yes of course, a wig more accurate to the 3 first movies will be better, the artisan wig i shown is just an example.
Anymway i think everybody prefer the first trilogie
