really?

Every one points to hot toys wealth and resources. So what? Hasbro has money and assets too but do we expect from them to compete at queens level?

In reality theres nothing in hot toys portfolio that leads me to believe they could suddenly do anything to come close to queens joker. Closest thing they achieved to rooted hair is the recent golden armour wonder woman. They use the same 2 ply fabric technique as a solution to all theyre outfits and it looks terrible. They use the same cheap materials and the same bodies. They have the same process and formula for everything (Like the disney brand they represent funnily). They are a machine. They are great at what they do. But somewhere in theyre complacancy hot toys focus made a shift from a premium collectibles company to a glorified toys company. Theyre not going back to trade blows with a different kind of company now. At this point for them to deliver that kind of quality they would have to do a complete 180 degrees and revaluate theyre goal as a brand. I dont see that will happen any time soon.

People aren't even thinking of JND lol, it's all about Queen and Hot Toys right now, if Queen announces something that's even better than this offering I imagine a lot of people will be hitting their heads against the wall but we don't know if they will yet, unless I'm not properly informed.

Lol, I am.

You'd be insane to discount JND. If you're really going to be willing to pay 1000 dollars for two items that may or may not live up to the prototype, you'd easily be able to place a similar amount, altohugh hopefully a lot less, for 1/6 JND whom are proven to keep to their low productions runs, release their products exactly on time, use the highest quality material and release their products the same as proto to better.

Not to mention Kojuns experience in producing 1/6 silicone figures. For me I still don't personally think QS final products match their prototypes, and their biggest strength is purely listening to feedback. The first QS item that has countered this seemingly is Vipers 1/4 Joker statue, and it seems like they're positioning Viper to be the JC Hong to Hot Toys or Kojun to JND. But do you realise how many projects and private commissions Viper has going on? He hasn't even released the Samurai run that has been on order for two years - I can say with 100 percent certainty that they will most definitely not be meeting their time frame for these releases.

JND had put themselves out there and have shown to meet their promises. So far QS to me at least are very hit and miss, don't hit release dates consistently, are being led by a talented but very inconsistent artist in terms of deadlines etc. Not to mention lack of critique levied at these figures are a bit worrying. For me personally where's the stitching on the lapels, why is the coat looking like it's made out of cotton fabric, head looks a little undersized, hair colour is still wrong (green from the roots to the ends) etc.

Want to be proven wrong, though!

I think you're being way too harsh on Hot Toys man lol, wether you love or hate them the fact is they pionnered this industry for two decades, regardless of how they conduct their business now they still remain the benchmark of 1/6 collectibles, hyping Queen this much might be building expectations that will be impossible to meet if the final product ends up even slightly different from the proto, let's not all crap on everyone else because Queen showed an amzing first prototype, it's not fair to anybody.

I'm not discounting anybody, not even Hot Toys lol, I was the only one mentioning JND when the first pictures of QS Joker dropped, I was just saying that at the moment there's too much hype sorrounding this particular figure for anyone to think about the possibility of other 1/6 Jokers coming after it.

I guess only time will tell

IMO I don’t see Hot Toys being able to top this not because they couldn’t, but because they will choose not to. They have never successfully pulled off rooted hair and honestly don’t think they’ve even tried to at this level. For them to suddenly implement something like that doesn’t seem like a good business decision.

They’d probably have to do a limited high cost run to make it worth it, which would piss off anyone who didn’t get one. If they sell 500-1000 copies at $1k each is $1m in revenue really worth the cost to produce these for a company the size of Hot Toys?

They have a way larger audience than Queen and I just don’t see the risk/reward paying off for something like this.

Victory has defeated them, peace has cost them their strength.

They have a huge customer base across a lot of different properties and it doesn’t seem like they have the time or need to innovate anymore. They’ve hit a balance of quality AND manufacturability (ignoring their production delays) that seems to be the money maker for them. Why invest a ton of energy in a range topping line thats revenues would be a drop in the bucket compared to random stormtroopers and Ironman repaints?

Exactly yeah but look at it this way, without Hot Toys, we wouldn't have Queen putting out such an amazing proto, now let's wait and see if Queen can fulfill their promises and truly revolutionize the hobby.

Very true this.

We'll see if ego has any weight on HT's "punch back". But likely not. Hot Toys is doing just fine. It's really Queen that has to prove themselves... not HT.
