But seriously, why did they choose this sculpt to recast? It reminds me too much of the DX05.

Unless it got deformed in the process it's one of the worst customs I've seen.

Surprised that the Sideshow TOD hasn't been done yet - the sculpt that beats all other Indy sculpts.

First red flag for me was when the payment invoice came from the old iminime payment address. Haven't seen any of the newer iminime things recasted in a while, I'm assuming Denny switched factories to one that wasn't recasting his ****.

I don't think any of the sculpts are entirely perfect, at the end of the day, go for what you want and make it look as good as you want it to.

On that note, I've seen the MJ sculpt praised very highly. Some have written it's the best.

So, is the 'Treasure Hunter' recast a fair reflection? Or is it down to warping or paintwork?

When I first saw the recast on Wednesday morning it was on the iPod. I took one look at the photos and really thought it was a recast of the DX05 with a small hat sculpted on top.

The recast is far from the best, but, it's a painted Indy sculpt and is going cheap, what's not to like!? Think how much you'd spend if you got MJ's head and then had it painted by Jake. The MJ is also an easier target because it wasn't a licensed item in the first place. It starts to make sense why it would be recast when you look at it that way. The one thing that is interesting though, someone would have bought the original head from MJ on here and has sold it on to be recast.

I guess it must be an improvement over the DX05 - which feels like it was the basis for the sculpt - as long as that hat really is removable.

I upgraded the DX05 with a SS TOD sculpt, but that left me with a second SS TOD figure with the DX05 sculpt... I really want to be rid of that sculpt from display. :lol

The TOD does look good, but, sometimes less so when you put a hat on it. It looks tiny and even the DX05 hat makes him look like Pharrell. If the head was bigger then I might have been more excited by it.

Not to everyone, to me, a custom figure should reflect a person's individuality. Use the parts everyone else has and it's now like everyone else's so it's not a custom.

I disagree Roger. For me, building a custom figure is about getting the very best look you can, on a budget that you can afford, rather than just going for bits that no-one else has ever used, as those bits are clearly going to look like ****!!!

Those aspects are true too and I have done that. I have used parts that others have used at certain points, but not in the combinations they have. The parts I have used are all good, and may have been the parts du jour at one point, but, I have stuck with my parts as they were affordable and didn't move on to anything more expensive like others did. People say, "Get the Inigo sculpt, get the Yunsil or Kato gear.." and you're not one of the 'cool kids' if you don't, sorry, but, I'm not going to follow that.

Make the figure that pleases you, not them. If you keep trying to please everyone else then nothing you do will ever be good enough in someone's eyes

I have tried to please no-one but myself Roger, and you will see from this thread that I have taken a lot of stick on here in the past for my choices and views on the subject. I am certainly not one of the "cool kids" and I do not agree that my Indy looks like an identi-kit copy of all the other ones out there. For starters, how many other figures have you seen on here with a Sovereign Studios jacket? I haven't seen any. And I am also using a bog-standard Hot Toys shirt and Sideshow pants, which to me look great without having to fork out $$$ for the equivalent Kato or Yunsil efforts.

The other big difference is that I have done a lot of custom weathering on my Indy figures, which makes them true one-of-a-kind pieces, and really sets them apart from all those collectors who seem to want their Indy to look as if he's just stepped out of the dry cleaners or the local Explorers R Us clothing store! Surely taking the time to weather and individualise my figures fits in perfectly with your view of what constitutes a custom figure? Or, by seeking that recognition from you, am I simply trying to become one of the "cool kids"...?

That's good and I have read and understood that from all your posts, and I know what your figure is about. My comments regarding 'cool kids' were more general and were not aimed at you at all. Your custom is more like mine, I am using the SSC jacket, HT shirt, SSC pants, Hasbro shoes, SSC whip and a belt and holster by SteveO's Toys. I still use and rate the Trev SSC head and am using the HT hat with it. I am painting and weathering it all myself too.

That's the thing with me, although I quote in replies much of what I say later is for general readers of that reply and not aimed at the person I have quoted

Sorry if anything I said was misunderstood

If they bump up the size by 10-15% in the re-casting process, then it could be rather nice.

I don't see any issue with the size. It's exactly the same size as the DX05.

The only problem was that out of the box it sits too high. Once you take the plug out of the neck it sits down on the body just right.

I appreciate the clarification Roger. No hard feelings, buddy.
