Okay, here's what I did.

1) bring water to a boil in a pot
2) put the head in for about one minute
3) take the head out with a spoon (caution, will be hot)
4) wrap head with a towel (it will be hot), put one finger in the bottom hole, and with the other hand, squeeze the head so the ears come in. I held it this way for about 5-10 minutes.

Yay! USPS ended up finding my package, so I swung by the post office and picked it up. Super pleased with the likeness. For the money, I think it's well worth it. I did end up using the hot water trick. Just dunked the entire back of his head in (near) boiling water for 40 or so seconds. Held the ears in the place that I wanted them to be, and then dunked the head into an ice bath. Worked a treat!

Here's a pic:

Sorry for the bluriness. Will ask the misses if I can use her fancy camera tomorrow. Definitely an improvement over the DX05 sculpt. I actually think the ear trick also addresses the very minimal scaling issues people were experiencing. It kind of narrows the head and makes everything look much more proportionate. Now I want to go in and fix his clothes...lol. Those collars need to be fixed.

He looks great, I stared long and hard at mine and couldn't seem to see anything wrong with the ears. If I do see it then I may adjust them. When I look at this pic of mine, I don't see it:

I didn't take a before picture, but mine didn't look that good when I got it. Yours doesn't need anything.

It could be because that pic was taken with macro on. When I look at him in hand, I do see it a little, but not as much as I did in the original promo pic. Did I get lucky!?

Yo, anybody here got a pair of Henry Jones glasses they could spare maybe? Or at least a good substitute?

I just did the boiling water trick.

Dropped the head into a bowl of boiling water for a few minutes. Then held his ears in with a towel for a few more minutes.

Left him in the freezer for five minutes.

It seems to have worked, as long his ears don't spring back out over time. :lol

The main culprit was his right ear, which seemed to stick out further than the left.

I'm still debating whether to do it with mine. Vinyl can sometimes return to its original shape over time, it's a chance you take.

But there is no dengerous for paintup and to deforme other details(nose etc)?

I did it to mine too, but, although I do notice a difference, I'm not sure if it's made as much difference as I thought it might have. To me mine doesn't look all that different to how it does in that last pic of it I posted. I think it's probably because I'm seeing mine in hand and everyone else's in pics. That said, I would imagine that the vast majority of us have never seen Harrison Ford in hand and can only judge by what we see of him in pics, where lenses and lighting can make an awful lot of difference.

It called to mind a time when a friend of mine wanted to do a 1/6 sculpture/maquette of Cat from Red Dwarf. Luckily for him, he knew the writers and had met Danny Jon Jules previously. This led to him being able to spend an afternoon with Danny where he got as much reference material as he possibly could. The resulting maquette looked so convincing that Danny used it on the cover of his single. I saw the maquette in hand and it was phenomenal! Obviously, very few of us are ever going to be that lucky, I mean not even HT have been able to do reference gathering with the actual people they want to do as figures.

My actual problem with the sculpt's ears really isn't just the fact that they stick out a bit, that can be easily fixed using the heating/freezing technique. But it's more so how large the ears are in relation to the face/head.

If you look at the sculpt in profile view, the ears are frickin' huge. I may purchase a second head to see if it's worth dremeling them down in size. I know Ford has some large ears, but the sculpt's ears are huge.

It feels to me like everyone (myself included) is trying really hard to like this sculpt. I myself go back and forth. The paint apps are so good that I want to like it, but I end up feeling like it's just weird looking.

I think in the end I'll just stick with this

(Bad pic)

I can't decide which likeness is better but I just like the angry expression better.

The MJ Choi recast isn't as good as the SS TOD, but at least it's something different with which to replace the really horrendous DX05.

I think the SS TOD is perfectly scaled, whereas the recast is a bit oversized, even though it is still a vast improvement over the DX05 (which isn't difficult!).

Don't remember anyone saying the DX05 was too small, yet it's the same size as the TOD.
