OK, got my LED lightsaber today....

The hilt is nicely made, not too oversized considering the batteries are housed inside it. It's not accurate of course, but close enough.

The light-up works via a red LED light and a clear saber sword. You twist the saber handle to make the connection.

As suspected, the light is not very bright in regular interior daylight. In fact, I had to go into a dark room to see the blade glow. In very low light, it glows very nicely. At night it will look terrific... but it's not ideal for daytime display at all.

So, if you have some extra cash and you want a quick, easy light-up saber for low-light dispaly, this is not a bad choice.

Someone mentioned the weak batteries that are supplied in HK products and I'm wondering if I can get more juice out of this with fresher, stronger batteries? We'll see.

I got this one a couple of weeks ago, as said it works, though not too bright.
I like the chrome finish a lot!

Yeah, the saber itself is very nice.

I think my batteries are already shot. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't come on, sometimes they are strong, sometimes they are weak and flicker. Not sure if its the connectors or the batteries, but I'm hoping its the batteries.

Guess I gotta put out more cash to get two more proper batteries.

I want to like this, but right now I'm feeling its chinsy.

Sounds like a bad connection.

So should I try pulling up those little 'connectors' to touch the batteries better? I'd hate to snap them off but I'd like to get this working properly. Know any tricks?

Also, of note to those that have this, there's a picture on the box -- the chinese instructions -- that shows 3 batteries but the saber only comes with two. Maybe a third would help as far as longevity.

Wouldn't hurt to try everything. Just be careful. Personally I would've avoided it. Maybe try contacting the seller for a refund or exchange?

OK, update time:

I got two new batteries for the saber as the ones supplied were basically dead, but the new ones made it only moderately brighter and it still flickered quite a bit.

Then, I tried three batteries (like the picture on the box) and it lit right up and is much brighter. Bright enough to read even in daylight. So clearly that's the trick -- use THREE batteries.

Not sure why only two are supplied when that third one makes such a difference.

Anyway, it works great now for an LED. So for those of you who have this, please try it with a third battery. You will be pleasantly surprised.

And if anyone is still considering this, I'm much happier now with it. It's not 'cathode' bright, but it does read in daylight and is very bright in low light displays.

Sounds pretty good Wor Gar, got any pics in moderate/low lighting so we can get a feel for it?

Cheers DG

Unfortunately I'm back at work now and didn't get a chance to photograph it. It'll be dark by the time I get home so maybe I can snap off a couple tomorrow in the morning.

But it looks more or less like the photos on previous pages. Originally mine was so faint it didn't read but see-thru pink at best in even low light. Now mine looks to be brighter than the pics below:

Maybe not amazing or anything, but still better than the stock SS candy-stick saber blade.

:D

Looks more or less like this in low light -- nightime but house lights on --

I might have spoke too soon before... the 3 batteries work great... WHEN the saber decides to light up. Seems maybe my leads aren't connected perfectly. Takes some jiggling and finessing to get the light to come on full strength. The "on-off" works by twisting the handle of the hilt to tighten the batteries against the leads... but this doesn't always work on mine.

Anyway, when it is working correctly, the above pics show what I got.

I'll try to post daylight shots tomorrow to show what to expect during the day.

But for a self-contained light-up saber -- without having to hide cathode wires and power adaptors and all -- it pretty nice.

Just got mine from the original seller en ebay and I find it pretty cool!
The heft of the hilt is great and it looks very very well made.
It's night here, so I can't comment on just how bright it is, but it looks great.
Will check whether it has two or three batteries later on.

Ok, got the Lightsaber with LED that you just turn and its on....Its cool. the issue is the red light itself, very light. But the saber detail is cool...so I am happy with it. if they had done a red tube instead of clear, that would probably help the effect a bit better.

Is no one else having any trouble with the leads connecting? It turns on and off just fine?

Mine is very temperamental. Sometimes I have to 'bend' the saber to get it to light full strength. I believe the saber hilt that twists hits one of the leads, and on mine that lead is buried deep in the waxy plastic.

I'm waiting to hear back about a replacement.
