Thanks for the pics/review Wor gar very nice. So are you satisfied with the hunch look on the right? I'm curious how that looks like with his cape on. Only ask because that's how I'm planning to pose him once I get him.

Thank you.

Yes, I think I will be able to get a good hunched look out of this figure. Unfortunately, the CGI character in the movie was able to stand in ways that simply would not work in real-world. Not sure where movie-Grievous gets the "hunch" look from anyway since his body parts "jar" belly doesn't have any articulation. But whatever. Once the cape is on, and I fix the limitation to the head by allowing the collar to slide under the back plate, I think I can get a "hunched-enough" pose with the added benefit of a head that can look upward rather than down. I will try this tomorrow and let you guys know.

That all said, now that I have him in-hand, I really like the break-away arms (the four) rather than the two-arms. I don't really like the way the two-arms work (although they work great if you want them behind his back). The split-arms pose easily in far more ways thanks to a swivel joint.

I want to try one set of split arms on one side and the melded arms on the other. 3-arms could look unique.

Pretty sure mine will have the split arms more-or-less permanently attached. Too many cool posing options between the electro-staff, sabres and gun to use anything less than four arms.

Damn, forgot about that electro-staff. You're right, needs four hands.

One = staff
Two = saber
Three = pistol
Four = gesturing with attitude.... or a second saber

Of course, 4 sabers is pretty awesome too. :panic:

Yep, my ultimate display would be a cold cathode rig with four sabres, done in way that consolidated and minimized the wiring. I'm sure we'll see a few people do that in the months ahead. Lots of neat possibilities when it comes to displaying this figure.

Great review Wor-Gar, look forward to some more pics. Super excited for this now, only a couple more days!

Thank you.

Well hey that works for me. thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I'll still have the 2 arms for most of the time. def. will do the 4 arms here and there when I'm feeling like he needs to be in action.

Metal Grievous would be awesome. But this one is plastic.

Think of this along the lines of HT Iron Man figures -- lighter than you'd expect because its plastic.

OK, picture time... at least of some of the bits and pieces. Better shots in daylight. But here's a start...

Here's the "hunch"... on left is how he should be posed but he'll topple right over, while on the right is how he can be posed and still stand on his own.

Here's the neck/head posing problem -- they stack up to restrict movement:

Here's my FIX... (bending the back plate upward so collar can slide past):

Great (and fast) review Wor-Gar!! Cool to see proper in hand pics of this. Are the joints dangerously stiff like they were with the battledroids?
But looks great, yeah I think I will repaint the eye area too.

Cool, got my shipping notice finally! He'll be here Monday, which is cool since I'll be getting Commander Wolfe on Friday to tide me over till Monday, and I have off on Monday, so I'll be home to nab him as soon as he gets delivered!

CAN'T WAIT!!!

So many pose options for this dude! I know I'm going the no cloak, four sabers route but still not sure of the exact pose. It'll be so much fun futzing around with him getting him just right for the Besta

So just out of interest for those folk who have been on a SSC waitlist before, what is the likely hood of one of the exclusives converting on this guy?

I'm gutted I missed out on the EX.

Thanks for the pics & review. Any chance you could take a few more pics when you have a moment? Love to see four saber look like the premium format pose.

I haven't been on a waitlist, before, but I've seen plenty convert. Since the regular seems to be in the process of being restocked, I'd just sit tight and see what happens. Grievous would've been on a lot of flex plans, so it's likely that there will be some card declines or cancellations in favour of other stuff. I'd think you have a pretty good chance of converting.

I'm on waitlist too. From what I've had convert & from what I've heard from other people, seems like most convert 90-95% of the time. Could be some time though. There's so many figures I want that are either out or coming out by December, that if I miss out on this one, I won't be too bummed.

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I was a bit late getting to the waitlist as I was trying to find one here in Europe but in the long run in will only cost me about $20 more to get the EX direct from Sideshow so I went with that option plus the fact that he is so fragile if anything goes wrong at least SS Customer Service will hopefully sort me out.

As you said I think my best option is to sit tight and see how it pans out.

Fingers crossed...c'mon waitlist conversion....Poppa needs a brand new dollie!

See the thing is I have no other figures this year as I only collect Star Wars and this is the only one I would like.

I was waiting on my local supplier to get me a price and just as he did the EX went on waitlist...so here I am hoping for a card cancellation or something like that to befall a fellow collector.

Thanks for the thoughts and pics WG, really looks good in-hand :rock

Any chance you could take a picture of the pink eye issue? I guess I've missed the discussion about it, but sounds like it would be an easy fix.

This is an interesting question. I'm used to HT DX products for around $250-$300, hence the T2 T-800 in the picture for example. He's very solid feeling, very heavy. Gives it a certain tactile quality. Grievous, like most Sideshow figures, suffers from its lightness. It does not feel like a $250 figure. It feels like a toy, kind of like an erector set. But then just look at him -- there's absolutely nothing like him anywhere -- nor on my shelf, so that alone gives him a certain "weight". Bossk was an excellent SS anomaly -- very heavy figure, extremely well done. I did not get the new Vader, so maybe someone can chime in about his weight. Grievous is, by design, a thin, spindly character and the only way to give it real heft would be to make him out of real metal. So in answer to your question: yes and no. He doesn't feel like $250. But his sheer size (16 inches+) and his uniqueness really make him worth the money (considering Luke Hoth is $200).

I can understand the concern over weight, but I figure as long as the figure looks like it has weight and is well designed I don't worry too much about it. And with figures like grievous and battle droids that probably couldn't function in the real world having the extra weight would lead to arms not staying posed or them toppling over from joints weakening (from the weight) over time. The Battle droids almost feel paper thin... but I don't worry about wilting since the plastic seems quite rigid and unlikely to be affected by the low weight of the figure.

Yeah, agree about weight. the battle droids are a perfect example of strength over weight. It's like abs plastic or something.
Hopefully Grievous is the same. Only Wor-Gar knows for sure..

:lol

The joints are very stiff. There is so many joint-points on his legs that its takes some time to get every joint posed correctly -- especially with those chicken legs. You have to pose the feet, ankle (there are two points), the chicken knee, the regular knee and the hip joint. You can't always find the sweet spot between clicking points.

I know for a fact that you will want to repaint the eye area, so just plan on it, Rory. :) In truth, that pink has to go and the dark red that's there could use some lightening up.
