Reminded me of this:

So does that mean Boba Fett should have a Vince Vaughn sculpt? :dunno

Argh! Ok, so I've tried, but I just can't resist it.

This figure just doesn't look right

The proportions, the fit of the chest armour, the helmet shape, the costuming (particularly the sleeves), the body size, the weight and feel of the thing, all just...wrong!

I'm surprised more of you can't see how off it is. The only thing I actually like about it, is the weathering, and the base.

And here's the thing. I swear, swear to you guys, that I've been going out of my way not to mention this, as I know it just riles people for some reason. But the simple fact is that this Boba Fett, not their RotJ version, but this ESB version, is still much, much better

I didn't even take that shot with the intention of mimicking the real on-set still, it just naturally looks like it. I only just realised that they must have used those exact on-set shots to sculpt it - look at the hands, they're in the exact same pose!

It's not perfect. The backpack sits too high. The weathering on Sideshow's is better. But overall, it's simply a much better figure.

I promise that's the first and last time I will bring up the "other" company. But I really feel it needed saying, because to me it's glaringly obvious that it's superior in every significant way.

Back to the Sideshow one - they need to re-think the whole way it hangs together. The details are there, the weathering is there, but it just isn't right. The whole essence of what makes Boba Fett so cool is missing, his stance, his build, the way the costume sits on him like he belongs in it.

Sorry to be so negative, I really want this to be the ultimate Boba Fett so that I can, you know, buy it. But it currently falls far, far short.
I agree with everything you've said. I think Fett's design (in itself) makes almost any variation look bad ass, even if not accurate. But with the rising costs of collectables galore, I think it's fair to say that we should get something that reminds us of what was on-screen. Body language and shape has all to do with that. My Fett still has a lot of work ahead of it but anytime I customize something, I go for shape/fit first. All the detailing and additions/subtractions come next. I also make me customs so they're just as durable as the factory releases...so it is possible to improve upon these things.
So far I love Sideshow's blaster, the shape of the pouches (one pouch flap is the wrong way still) and the direction the belt and sash are going.
I think Indiana Jones fans are facing the same thing and it will only be the swap out of parts and futzing (sometimes to the extreme) that will make the 'perfect' figure.
I hate to pick on the guy who put lots of work into the Indy below (left) but you can see what I mean about shape/fit being key.

Wow. Just...wow. Both those figures, the Indy and Boba Fett, look like they walked off the screen. Absolutely incredible.

Details please, or a link to the relevant thread in Customs if there is one.

I almost don't think we'll need a ROTJ Fett (at least I don't feel I'll need one). While this SSC guy is ultimately gonna bury the Medicom ESB Fett, pee on the grave, and throw away the shovel, the Medicom ROTJ Fett is pretty much spot-on...I can't think of how SSC could improve upon it? Actual working jetpack, maybe??

Lollers. The helmet, jetpack, shoulder bells, codpiece, backblate, knee darts, boots, and chest armor are the EXACT same molds from the ESB!

The major differences between the two Medicom figures are fabric materials, body, and paint.

Before you blast a particular figure (or anything else, really), it's a good rule of thumb to actually have a clue what you're talking about.

***Sorry for Medicom talk. Back to SideShow Fett***

Honestly I think SSC will really milk Boba for all he's got. We'll see ROTJ, probably the Animated debut but what I'm really interested in is if they'll go through the McQuarrie concepts. A while ago they did express interest in visiting those designs and I wonder if Fett will be one of the first. Hopefully with both helmets.

I never understood the whole Medi vs SS thing. :monkey1

While in the end I prefer the SSC Boba over Medi's, I still think the Medi Bobas are great figures and the SSC version doesn't really take anything away from them imho.

A 1/6 McQuarrie Boba from SSC would be Godly!!! I know this may be sacrilege to most but I actually prefer the white McQuarrie concept armor to the actual movie armor.
