I just want great figures, whichever company makes them.
Agreed but it isn't that I want to think only Hot Toys is capable of making great 1/6th figures its just from what I've seen that seems to be the case more often than not (at least with human figures, Sideshow's droids and aliens and masked characters are fine). I'm really hoping that the Hoth Luke and Han figures turn out great because I'm excited for them. I'd also like Luke in his X-Wing gear despite the high price and lack of accessories but am waiting to see how the Hoth figures turn out first.

Sideshow can be hit and miss but I wouldn't say they're just "fine" with droids, aliens and masked characters - I'd say they're pretty much on-par with HT in that regard. The quality of their weapons, accessories and outfits is also on-par. It's just human heads that they're behind in, and that's why the Hoth figs are indeed critical.

The dilemma for me is that SSC is the only 1/6 company who will make a Hoth Rebel Soldier, Dengar, Ree Yees etc.

I didn't mean to say that Sideshow figures such as droids, aliens, and masked figures are fine in the sense that they're just okay. They're good at them from what I've seen, it was just a choice word that I used. Wasn't trying to be critical. I mostly think that their human sculpts need quite a bit of work which hopefully they're working towards improving and the Hoth figures turn out great.

Amazing that with a repaint, even the somewhat doll-like features on that old SSC Solo provide a (far) better likeness than Hot Toys' new figure. ;)

Will Ferrell as Han? That's a new one.

I guess the thread is filled with youngsters, because no one mentioned how that Sideshow sculpt lifted the hair from the original Kenner 1977 Solo figure. ;)

I wish! Thanks for the info. Random, but does anyone here know if Palitoy in the UK did the 12" Star Wars figures? I swear I remember seeing them in a toy shop in the seventies, but I don't know if this is just 'false toy memory' syndrome.

They were definately there, I can't say if it said Palitoy on the boxes or not. But I remember they had the 12" figures when I was a kid. I remember when ESB (or if it was) ROTJ hit the smaller carded figures said Kenner instead of Palitoy except for the older figures which I guess was remaining old stock. The text on the cards were sometimes in french as well, I guess that's what happens when you live in a small country in the outskirts of the universe. :lol

Thanks mate. The first time machine will be invented by an action figure collector.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one... if Han is a the port and getting a 5-7weeks or maybe April-May, then I don't think Luke will be landing anytime soon :lol

One of the reasons I'm not chomping at the bit to get a Taun Taun, I don't think they will sell out anytime soon and I really don't need an riderless Taun Taun hanging out in the collection.

I've never disliked this head as much as most people... I do agree he's a bloated looking, but it's clearly a later Han Solo. I've seen it repainted and used for Hoth and Endor figures in the past and it works pretty well.

I don't have either of them on order, so I don't know. Did they say "shipping soon" for Han in a newsletter? They've gotten R2 and now the 3rd Vader run out. I would think they should have updated the Luke page already if they weren't going to be able to start shipping next month. With only two weeks left in Feb, it's too close to base the timeframe on a hope/wish. ;) So maybe, just maybe, they know something we don't.
