It's strange, because even though it's the exact same sculpt, the hatted head looks MUCH better and more accurate to me than the hatless head.

It's the same with Han. Instead of 100% of the sculpt having to be accurate, it knocks it down to 80% as they don't need to show as much of Ford or Hamil as the head gear covers the sides, forehead, hair. I'm just not buying the hair on either, but thankfully I was all about the hatted ones on both to begin with.

please watch video of the most incredibly life-like figure I have ever seen in my entire life.
Wor-Gar, if I had to pick THE most like-like I have ever seen, it would be the new HT 'Heisenberg' from Breaking Bad. Not only life-like, but a dead-on likeness. (this does not include the clothing, which are barely acceptable.) By the way-- maybe I'm a bit dense, but were you being serious...?

Very nice video review of Luke, thanks to whomever originally posted it. I was always intending to get both Luke and Han regardless, and cover their faces if needed... It's nice to know I won't have to cover Luke at least.

Sorry guys they are nice figures but I think they missed the mark on both Luke and Han They're great as Hasbro figures but not " high end Collectibles "

Great review, where are your in-hand photos, we'd love to see them.

I think we're deep into "eye of the beholder" territory here.

When I look at this -

I see more Mark Hamill on the left. Less detailed, perhaps more simplistic or "toyish" On the right I see a heavily detailed head that I know because of a few attributes. But maybe even over-detailed. The paint is more realistic, but looks almost feverish...and too shiny. And I don't think the eyes look more or less realistic on either one.

Pretty awesome that we have these options. :)

Looking good so far. I am liking the sculpt in these new pics. Cool video review as well. Really let's you know what you are getting and how everything works. Nice touch. The hair seems to be the right shape and a bit better than the hot toys in that respect but it just seems a bit hasbro as far as the detail. It will most likely look much better in hand as does the Hot Toys. It looks nothing like that pic on the right in person. Maybe a hair swap is in order. Dunno :)

True, the likeness might be there but the flesh tones/lifelikeness still need work. Still, more than good enough to upgrade my old SS Bespin Luke and Han.

Just a reminder - these SSC Luke Hoth pics are TAKEN FROM A YOUTUBE VIDEO. So they do not really show the sculpted texture on the Luke face and the color will be slightly off. They are sharpened from video quality, so the detail is less than what it will appear in normal pics or in-hand.

As pointed out, that is not a HT figure. But it SHOULD be, that's the important thing.:lol

Those pants could be from 2006 in terms of cut and pattern. Makes the hip and slender legs look scrawny when it bunches up oddly in action poses.

The legs/pants are probably the weakest aspects of the figure but fortunately are likely to go completely unnoticed when he's astride the Tauntaun and his pants are properly futzed.

I'm excited. Han made me thinking that my wallet would get a break from the Tauntaun and my "ANH + Fett and Yoda" focus would be easy to achieve but I think I'm biting the bullet on Luke now.

Therezero would have to go back to the drawing board and make the head sculpt unrecognizable first.
I really don't get why you have such a strong bias against Hot Toys. Not every sculpt they do is perfect but to act as though most of what they put out is so far off from what it should be is just kind of silly.

Hot Toys has done some amazing likenesses; Chris Reeve Superman, Keaton Batman, (lower half, anyway) BD Robocop, Terminators, and the newer Tony Starks to name a few. I just really resent them for making so-called 'stylized' versions of Han and Obiwan. Come on- it's friggin STAR WARS... we deserve better sculpts, and they could have delivered if they really wanted to.

I kind of sympathise with Pixelpiper, even if I disagree with him... this hobby is nothing if not subjective, and it's possible to be sincere in your views yet still find yourself at odds with everyone else.

I've read the positive comments about this figure with bewilderment - I can see I'm going to spend the next few weeks trying to like it and failing.

Wait until the actual figure is released first maybe? I remember that Superman looked quite different from proto to release.

Yes, Hot Toys does often tweak and change things after the promo pics; in the case of Superman (and many others) the promo pics show the finalized physical sculpt that you will ultimately receive, but with a vastly more detailed paint job than you get in-hand; minute skin blemishes, tonal variation, moles, etc. rarely appear on the final product- they're in the photos for the sake of close-up photography only, which is a bit dishonest. However, most HT collectors already know this, so they know what to expect more or less. As for Han and Obiwan, I think the time for increasing the actor likenesses has passed.

Most threads for substandard figures exhibit the same five stages of grief:

<yodavoice>Denial leads to anger, anger leads to bargaining, bargaining leads to depression, depression leads to acceptance (or not) </yodavoice>

I think Obi Wan is pretty good now. Good enough anyway. Han... boy oh boy, they'd better not release that. But I seriously doubt they will, why else would Ham and Bionic Bigfoot have swapped places with the Stormies?

The Obi-Wan that's up for order compared to what was initially shown is a vast improvement. Still not perfect but pretty damn good I think. Han is in need of some work but I tend to agree that I think it'll be better when the final figure is out. In truthfulness though I don't really mind it that much.

Maybe I'm just too easy to please. The SSC R2D2 you hated (enough to instantly resell it) I thought was pretty damn great as an on-the-shelf representation of the character - QC and finicky issues aside (and the fact it's 10% too small.) All those hatches and arms and stuff were definitely a bad decision, but I have an awesome R2-with-lights on the shelf.

Maybe the enormous raising of expectations simply goes hand-in-hand with Sideshow's raising of prices, so I can understand that. SSC deserves some ridicule for it, and these Hoth figures are the last of the "interim" price jump. When we move on to $240 Luke X-Wings, knives will turn to swords.:lol

I would hold off on judging this Luke figure until we have actual photos of it instead of frame captures from Youtube. It just seems fair, you know?
