Pretty good effort on SSC's part IMO. Though I'll be going with the superior hat head anyway.

It looks like the mouth needs to be bigger, the jawline less heavy, but I wonder if anything could stop it looking like Richard Clayderman, because it just doesn't capture the spirit of the character - at least the imperfect Hot Toys sculpt got an expression that says action, seriousness, looking to the horizon like a hero should - the Luke sculpt is more than neutral, it's a complete blank personality wise. I would love to see this repainted to see if it's just the layers of yellow paint on his face that are killing the sculpt.

A sculpt of Mark Hamill that can bear a fleeting resemblance to Daryl Hannah (but none to Mark Hamill) has failed in its primary purpose.

I'd make a joke... But in this case I don't think it's necessary.

You may want to stick to collecting something like baseball cards. ;) <-- This wasn't a joke I was referring to above.

I will say that looking at pictures and going off reviews the paint apps on the Sideshow Luke and Han seem sort of soft and lacking in detail to me. Hot Toys look more human whereas I think Sideshow's sculpts still look like a highly detailed toy but not quite up to par with higher end collectibles from other manufacturers (not just Hot Toys but Enterbay, Threezero, etc.). I also think the hair on both looks weak, but I still think Luke came out pretty decent. Sideshow definitely has a lot of room to improve though.

Just to pick up on the points you made about Sideshow v HT a few pages back (which were all perfectly reasonable points of view) at least the build quality, by and large, is better for HT products (with a few notorious exceptions that we all know about).

Sometimes, yes, the build quality is better, other times no. There are no rules as far as I'm concerned. I'd say the bodies on HT's Armory set for instance, are not of the same quality as the retail basic bodies I've bought from them, nor as good as those used on many previous figures. Cutting some corners in material selection perhaps. But in general, their TTM is a much nicer design than the SSC Prometheus and HT typically use what are to me, better plastics/finishes on their bodies.

I honestly cringed a little bit at the Prometheus body shown in the video review of this figure. From what I've seen of the product in photos and video, it's my biggest complaint - which is thankfully fully covered up.

As a general rule of thumb though, I tend to expect better build quality from HT, and yeah, that doesn't include the brand new Slim TT I bought last month that has a floppy leg. I guess also Sideshow feels a little cheaper in hand, which is fair enough if it is cheaper, if it's the same price, then not so much.

I can't speak much for Sideshow products feeling cheap as I only have their R2-D2 which if I'm honest does feel a bit on the chintzy side despite the fact that it looks nice. Granted it was cheap for a 1/6th item but I do wish there was more heft to it. I'm curious how a Sideshow human type figure will be in hand as I haven't really seen one in person that wasn't behind a display case.

Hot Toys has done some amazing likenesses; Chris Reeve Superman, Keaton Batman, (lower half, anyway) BD Robocop, Terminators, and the newer Tony Starks to name a few. I just really resent them for making so-called 'stylized' versions of Han and Obiwan. Come on- it's friggin STAR WARS... we deserve better sculpts, and they could have delivered if they really wanted to.
I hope they finally got stark right they made what 200 of them:lol

That pic was taken from a youtube video, so the yellow paint aspect is just an image quality issue.

Shaun does look a lot like Mark!
