Re: 1/6th Scale Sideshow TaunTaun

I am not sure if getting this or not yet. I have the bike for the scout trooper already ordered and space is limited. However, Hoth Luke and Han without it would sort of suck. Really looking forward to seeing the first in hand pics.

Han and probe droid is a good option too. That's my plan for now, Luke with Taun Taun and Han with Probe Droid.

Re: 1/6th Scale Sideshow TaunTaun

I feel like canceling my Wonder Woman PF and picking up the Probe Droid instead.

I could deal with only having the Hoth Han and Luke figures without a TaunTaun. I sort of am considering one larger piece for my Star Wars display. Either a TaunTaun or a Speeder Bike, but it depends on how both final products turn out and in the case of the TaunTaun whether or not the Hoth figures look good (I'm sure the Scout Trooper will turn out fine).

Shipping notice!
Mine will be here Thursday...unless the storm screaming across the country dumps another foot of snow.
Which it is going to do...
Friday maybe?
Anyway all that snow will make a great back drop!

Re: 1/6th Scale Sideshow TaunTaun

It is going to be a bit odd to have the Tauntaun showing up in collections long before either figure (Han & Luke) show up to "ride" it....here's hoping it came out great...

I've got both Han and Luke on order...but holding out on this until I see how it turned out...

Oh boy. Didn't order one but very curious to see how it turned out.

Re: 1/6th Scale Sideshow TaunTaun

I can't believe this is shipping before Han and Luke! What went up for preorder first?

Re: 1/6th Scale Sideshow TaunTaun

I have this and Luke and both versions of Han on PO.
I can't wait to see what this looks like!

Re: 1/6th Scale Sideshow TaunTaun

One thing I'm very anxious to see is if the head swap seam is as obvious and glaring as it appears here....

...if so, that's got the potential to be a bit of an eyesore....

I'd say this is the very reason why some people will wait it out. Maybe ssc should of had magnetic parts of the face or horns that attach to achieve a different portrait, instead of at the neck. Still, really hope to see this turn out well.

Yeah, I have the same screencaps. It might just be that stark dowlighting though - which... I guess is how most people will display this though.:slap I really hope it doesn't look like that - sorta ruins the illusion.

Re: 1/6th Scale Sideshow TaunTaun

I'll have mine in a couple of days... I've been looking at photos of Tippett's original animation model, with glued-on rabbit fur. Because the SS is a static non-articulated piece, I may take the plunge someday and fur the entire piece. The existing sculpted fur could easily be ground away with a Dremel. A terribly time-consuming process, yes- but I've done it before with an even larger item that I sculpted myself: a wooly mammoth.
Having real (fake) fur layered onto the tauntaun would also serve to hide the neck separation line very nicely, and I could still switch the heads. I saw photos of a Hasbro tauntaun that had a complete fur-job done, and it looked pretty bad- but only because the person who did it didn't grind away the sculpted hair first, and then they chose a very bad fur to use. With a $300+ item like this, I would take a lot of care doing it right.
The animation model pictured had a sort of 'rat-like' appearance, while the life-size tauntaun looked more like a camel-kangaroo hybrid. If I do this job I'll give it the best features of both, including a dark undercoat of skin tone.
