I don't think the sculpt has changed. Looking at all the pics. I just attribute that to the paint.

As far as Legolas. There was nothing wrong with the proto. He had no chicken legs at SDCC IMO at least. The likeness is one of the best I've seen for a 12" figure.

I'm probably wrong but I would almost swear that the production headsculpt and the one shown at SDCC are two different sculpts. The paint apps alone just can't be the reason for such a significant difference in looks.

In the pics in that new review, he's got that "deer caught in the headlights" look that make the eye sculpts look different. Even more obvious is the thinness of the headsculpt in the SDCC pic and the more rounder headsculpt found in the production piece.

I'll know for certain on Tuesday.

His face certainly looks full in this pic. I can't decide if he has the mumps or if he is doing his Marlon Brando in the Godfather impersonation.

More pics people, anyone get theirs today?

Well, I hope we get some more honest opinions and let's keep down the it looks better in person comments. Can't have any of that here at SSF! ;)

OK... I just received ARAGORN. First, I'll let the fresh-out-of-the-box pictures speak for themselves...

He definitely has that "Huh - what?" expression, no getting around it. Mine also has a strange snarl in the lips.

The hair -- not bad once in scale, but there could be more detail.

The beard -- a bit heavy, and too dark a color. Also, the most distracting thing, its very glossy.

The face -- some detail comes through a rather heavy paint job. The eyebrows on mine are painted lightly enough to look good, if it wasn't for those really bright, large eyes. You can see them clear across the room.

The outfit -- good overall. The tunic is really nice. The pants even have a row of lace-up ties on them -- pretty cool considering you'll never see it. The jacket is somewhat shiny though. The boots are okay, about what we expected.

Overall -- I'm torn; essentially its what everyone feared it would be -- its a 12" figure, not a museum piece or mini PF -- and yet I do find myself liking the figure. I haven't even begun to check out all the accessories but they look great in the box. Covering him in his supplies will definitely help. But I really like the materials used for the overcoat and tunic. The cloak is nice too -- also spotted with mud, a wire in the hood, and in a very dark brown color. The hood is much narrower than the Jedi cloaks and comes to an exceptionally long tip, which I believe is very accurate.

I do think this figure has potential. But I really need to spend some time futzing with this one to make a final decision on whether I keep him and continue with the line.

Thanks for the pics and the honest, immediate reaction Wor-gar! I am still really eager to get him in the mail tomorrow, to see how all of the questionable (to me...) aspects look in person.

Thanks Wor-Gar!

It appears this is clearly NOT the same eye and brow sculpt featured at SDCC or in the proto as were my fears... doesn't mean it isn't an overall great figure or the best Aragorn made but... those eyes and that expression are going to be tough getting used to for me anyway.

I will of course wait to have him in hand, but...

Great detail on the box. :clap

These were some VERY fast shots, I am on Mr. Mom duty today, so my time was quite limited. :nod

I have to say, that while many of the problems that have been pointed out ad nauseum are still present, the pictures have either been less than representative or I got a better one. There isn't a hint of any grey in the eyebrows, the eyebrows in general aren't on top of his head; it is much nicer than I expected. Sure, the hair isn't perfect, and yeah the weathering could be better (though the jacket/duster is much thinner than I was expecting). All in all, I have decided to keep him, and while I will be selective with this line, Aragorn is staying put.

Pjam,
I am not sure that it is a totally different sculpt. The lines below the eyes, not sure if I should describe them as bags or lids, but those lines whatever they are matche pretty identically to lines that appeared on the proto sculpt. I am trying to compare photos for some other landmarks to reference.

I'm also eager to see what others think on first impressions. I have a feeling I'll come around and really like this guy in time, even if its not what I was expecting or hoping for.

I do believe its the same sculpt, just once again lost underneath heavy paint and some unfortunate choices in coloration.

Keep the pictures coming. Mine's supposed to be here Monday but I can't pick it up for another week so the pics in this thread are going to have to keep me going.

Thanks.

That is how he is displayed for now, though I am using the more open-handed left hand.

Still looks nothing like Viggo, but those are the best pics I have seen so far Matt. Still glad I passed though.

Here's two more quickly --

I'm desperately trying to find a lighting situation that will bring this figure to the level of the proto. The photos of the figure on the box are fantastic. Don't look at those when looking at your figure in hand.

I also have discovered the problems with the eyes -- on the box (proto fig) the eyes are more half-iris, as if his eyes are narrowed, while on the actual figure they are closer to full iris, giving the surprised expression. Josh or Mikey could easily fix this and it would help tremendously. Even dragging a very thin piantbrush across the upper lid would help.

im sorry but in my opnion sideshow needs to get there final product act together some of the pics of the figure ive seen look just nothing like aragon. thats just my opinion, a figure shouldnt get pics taken from a distance just because the way they look close up(just my opnion) dong want to get lynched:chew
