Pjam,
I am not sure that it is a totally different sculpt. The lines below the eyes, not sure if I should describe them as bags or lids, but those lines whatever they are matche pretty identically to lines that appeared on the proto sculpt. I am trying to compare photos for some other landmarks to reference.

Who said "totally different sculpt"? I said the eyes and browline clearly appear different than the SDCC or proto, not the entire sculpt... if you look at the box you'll see what I mean.

Great box btw:D

Sorry Pjam, I didn't mean to imply that you had previously suggested that Sideshow had run a bait and switch, I simply meant that it looks like the original prototype sculpt is there, just under layers of paint!

The latest pics from LOTRfan and Wor-Gar are much more promising than the early HK pics posted. That coat could look a little bit scuzzier though!:lol

These were some VERY fast shots, I am on Mr. Mom duty today, so my time was quite limited. :nod

Now this is what this board is all about! Love the kids shot LF!

Here's what I was trying to explain with the eyes... first picture is the one on the box...

As Quint says... "He's got lifeless eyes...Like a doll's eyes."

Just realized the vines on his head are thicker on the production model than on the proto. Still, these ones in hand look much more promising than those HK pics. I'm somewhat worried still about the overcoat. Is it not as shiny as we were led to believe? And what of those cuffs on that duster???

No worries bro, just wanted my point clarified. I'll have mine tomorrow -- just hope I get a good one with great paint apps like LOTRfan.

I honestly do think I lucked out, I was fearing some awful grey brows! :google :horror

Thanks for the words about my kiddies, my son loves this fig! :aragorn

The jacket/duster is not nearly as thick as I was expecting, that makes the hope of weathering, distressing much more plausible.

they've painted the whites and the colour of the eyeballs over the upper eyelid slightly.... thats what is making his eyes look too big. paint will help this.

But im still asking myself..what happened to the casting or molding of the hair? it went from detailed convincing hair to gloopy looking slugs. like Aragorn poured treacle over his hair or something. Especially those pieces in the front.

As I've said before, the loss of the intensity in the eyes is the biggest tragedy of this figure. Everything else looks acceptable to me, it's just a crying shame that piercing stare didn't survive the production process.

So far the pics have me a little worried but I still want to see my Aragorn in person before I pass judgment. It's a tough one for me as I really want to love this line. So I may be a little biased. I have wanted Sideshow to create 1/6 scale LotR since I first started buying their figures. Of course then it would have been based off the book and not the movie. My heart will figuratively fall to the depths of Khazad-dum if this line tanks prematurely. Especially if it's before we get a Gandalf.

Tuesday can not come fast enough.

Im not going to look at the pics until mine comes, I hate spoilers. But I dont have a high stabdard for 12 inch figures, which is why I prefer the PF's.

However if Aragorn turns out bad I'll probably drop the 12 inch line and just go with the PF line. Lurtz is paving the way. Thats a "real" collectible. 12 inch figures are dolls for the little boys!:D

My wife always claims she has two little kids (our daughter and me) so you might be right :)

I have to say, at night Aragorn looks a lot better. I'm looking at him in a warmly lit living room and he looks great now. The eyes looks much more life like with some shadow cast from the brow ridge. That sun in my kitchen really works against him, particularly with the eyes. The detail on the sculpt comes through much better in warm overhead light.

I now see why that picture by LOTRFan looks so good -- its dimly lit, with lots of shadows showing off the sculpt.

Mine gets here next Wednesday, the 18th. I'm chomping at the bit thinking of painting him and weathering his costume. This is going to be a lot of work, and a lot of fun!!

Looks like a really bad porcelain Jesus figurine paint job you'd find at a flea market.

Well, that pic is blown up thrice the figure's actual size! I'm suprised it holds up as well as it does!!

True, but even the other photos don't look much more promising. I get him tomorrow and haven't seen him in hand, but it appears Strider may be a definite repaint.
