That second new pic looks remarkably different, and much closer to the prototype to me. You didn't get this much improvement from just using a blowdryer, did you?

Just got Aragorn today. Is that coat a joke? Did somebody at the factory actually look at it and think it looked good??? First fat face Han and now this. Cancelling all of my 12" orders with SS. The quality of their 12" line is sinking into the crapper, and they are not getting another dime of my money.

No, although heating up the head may have reformed it back into proper shape, I don't know.

I did use a very, very light sandpaper to "shave" down the heavy beard a bit. I know its a bit backward, but it doesn't look too bad. Now I'm just repainting in spots to give him a more Aragorn shaped beard. It isn't even a true beard in stills, its almost a reverse goatee with Viggo.

More pix as I dabble...

futzing looks like its going quite well wor-gar -- keep us posted -- btw, and sorry if this is a stupid question, but when you say you heated the head up, what exactly do you mean, just held it under a blowdryer for awhile? b/c the pics look great! thanks!

As I suspected, thinning the beard makes a huge difference. I'll be repainting mine to accomplish the same thing.

Yep, thinning down that beard makes a big difference. If you can somehow repaint the eyes to remove that "deer caught in headlights" look, I think he'll look even better.

Tuesday can not arrive fast enough... Just want to see the darn thing in person.

Yep, just held the blower on him for a few minutes. I didn't want to heat the hair locks too much.

Here's the progress so far...

He's getting there!

he's definitely getting there wor-gar -- great work -- are you just sanding to get the beard more accurate? sorry to keep bugging you, but it looks really good & if i can imitate you to the same effect i'll be eternally grateful -- especially if no painting is required -- my last attempt to repaint a figure ended with my having to reorder it  , so. . . thanks again!

Nice work Wor-Gar! Much much better, it's amazing how subtle changes can make such a difference!

I really wish SSC would fix their paint apps failures, enough is enough!

Thanks guys. This is my first repaint on a Sideshow figure. Its fairly minimal. Certainly nowhere near what Josh, Mikey, hurricane and others are doing.

Wyrmn, I did sand the beard down a bit as the earlier picture shows, just to thin it out. Then, this morning, I made a little batch of flesh tone paint and filled in the areas around the chin where Viggo has no growth. Then, I just whipped up some "brown" paint and very delicately touched up the goatee area to make that Aragorn-shaped beard. Its very subtle and not too dangerous -- just have a cutip standing by if you mess up. Of course, when viewing these pictures about 4x larger than the figure, it might not look great... but in person it really helps bring out the character you remember. And honestly, its not that hard to do. You don't even need to sand really.

Here's my final Viggo (with very subtle changes)...

Nice job, Wor-Gar. I've never repainted a figure, but I might give it shot seeing the difference it made to yours. How about some pics that aren't close up? And do you have any plans for his jacket?

The face was what distracted me the most. I'm not sure what I'll do with the jacket. I need to put all his gear on first and see how he looks. I might live with it as is. The face I just couldn't. Plus, I'm going to try and have him wear the cloak as well so I don't know how much jacket you'll actually see. I have no good full figure shots yet, but I figured if the face held up in 4x enlargements then it should work fine in a long shot. My outfit futzing begins now...

Even with the repaint I still don't see Viggo in that sculpt at all. No amount of paint can help that. I'm ordering the Hot Toys Viggo sculpt and customizing that to go on this figure.

nicely done wor-gar -- looks great!! i can't wait to get mine so i can try and re-create your work with the beard -- thanks for the tips!!

I really dont think he looks half bad now... Way to go Wor-Gar! :duff

Thanks Pix, and everyone else too. Its been kind of fun to gear him up. Nice detail on the bedroll. The quiver's belt is really stiff, so it will take time to set right. The arrows come with a black bag to put them in if you're so inclined. I like seeing the arrows out, so I didn't use the bag. I'm still trying to figure out how I can use the cloak on him now without stripping him down.

Its raining here in LA so the lighting is really gloomy right now in my usual spot, but it does kind of suit him.

Nice work WG... by far the best pictures and Futzing skills we've seen! I think thay many a scared collector's mind has been put at ease!

Now where's the nudie shots :naughty
