I think Sauruman, ringwraith, and witchking would be only ones worth doing of those choices.

I just see the LOTR line as a very tough line that is probably not very profitable for SSC to continue due to the complexity of producing them.

It is definitely a line with limits, but in a way, that almost seems more driving to just finish it. Star Wars will go on for years but LOTR wouldn't take too much within the realm of plausible to create a line that feels complete.

Saruman
Gimli
Merry
Pippin
Arwen
Eowyn
Theoden
Eomir
Wringwraith
Witchking
Wormtongue
Mouth of Sauron
Galadriel
Elrond
Bilbo

I think if you manage those, it'd leave collectors feeling pretty satisfied, maybe wanting Orcs and Lurtz and all, but more satisfied than now

And, with all of those fairly standard figured, pour resources into one out there figure with Gollum.

This line has the finest figures, the most potential and most diversity in characters. That's what makes it all the more painful to see it go sailing unto the Undying Lands.

Not completing the Fellowship Nine is a travesty. At the very least, it would have given the line a sort of closure that most collectors could have accepted.

:lecture... I don't know why, but it makes me sad. :monkey2

I never cared if the whole FS was made or not so that don't bother me. But i do wish some other characters i was interested in were made. I am happy to own the figures i have though.

Unfortunately there is no or little support from the Asian market for LotR figures, whereas there is a huge following for Star Wars. HT isn't interested in doing LotR because of that.

WHAT ??!!! No Saruman? Surely an oversight !

I would say its practically a certainly that Joe and Indy are going to die early deaths.

Is SS weeding out most of their 1/6 line outside of Star Wars? I don't collect 1/6, so I am no expert, but it seems that they pump out Star Wars 1/6th while other lines trickle out at a snails pace. Maybe it is because there is so much 1/6th competition?

You left out Tom Bombadil!!!!! ...joke...

Honestly, I think Sideshow is cutting back on their licences. Think about ALL of the different licences they have played with that just faded away over the years; about a year ago they tried Resevoir Dogs and that just faded away. G.I. Joe~ they released Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander pretty fast together and then the line seemed to fade away. I am just guessing, but it seems the only way to profit is to crank up the ES, produce more busts/PFs/Dios, make X number of variants, or stick to lines that attract more attention; i.e. Marvel, SW, Aliens/Predator.

lets see????????????????
Mcfarlane to produce sideshow variants.
(Gandalf the white reg. version, Gandalf the white with puck marks, variant).
NOT
definately pass.

Fool of a Took

I have mixed feelings; on one hand I'm let down and disappointed in Sideshow -- which I'm coming to think of as my favorite figure importer -- but on the other hand I've always felt a little disloyal for futzing these figures more than any others. I completely replaced the head on Aragorn, keeping only the Sideshow hair, and I swapped out Legolas' head for Darren's resculpt. I'm waiting to see what magic Les works with my Sideshow Frodo, but at the moment I'm partial to the ToyBiz Frodo I sculpted hair for and repainted myself.

So I'm going to approach this situation in that improvisational spirit, and keep working on my 1:6 Fellowship. Ada Chan sculpted a decent Dominic Monaghan from "Lost," so a Merry is possible. I think either the DiD or ToyBiz Gimli sculpts would work with a repaint. Considering that I actually replaced two Sideshow heads in this set, I guess I'm more accepting of something if I can just work with it. I'm willing to work a little harder.

But that darn fool of a Took...Pippin will be the toughest. The only Billy Boyd sculpts I know of are Weta statues...not a good prospect for kitbashing in these tough economic times.

Beyond that, there are good Hugo Weaving sculpts around, and a good Christopher Lee sculpt from the Hasbro Dooku. ToyBiz did a rather fair Arwen. And I've always felt just fine using my 1:6 Weta Gollum in place of an articulated figure. Sideshow brought us Boromir, and Faramir, neither of which were done by DiD or ToyBiz, so thanks, Sideshow, for those...

And Gandalf arrives tomorrow!! :D

For as much as the line was initially hyped they did release some troubled figures. I think if the line had been more consistent in quality and they had added some more interesting figures I know I would have been happier. Guess I have to make a Gimli as at least with him the set-up won't look as incomplete.

I was also a customizer and also got frustrated with 1/6 offerings that were less than I'd hoped for. But I really, really don't think that the SSC LotR are bad in any way and need all this work - all of the sculpts are great, although the production paint on Faramir and Aragorn did suffer.

Perhaps everyone complaining on forums such as this one (only on this one?) undermined the line and actually caused it's death. We've seen that LotR collectors are probably older, didn't grow up with licensed toys like Star Wars fans, and gravitated to the static statues. They just didn't respond to the posable action figures.

I gotta say this rings with alot of truth.

Let's see...

Mongoloid Faramir: YES --> Gimli: NO

Captain Antilles: YES --> King Theodin: NO

Commander Praji: YES --> Saruman: NO

6,000 Dead Repaints: YES --> Merry & Pippin: NO

We get a set of Endor Rebel Troopers no one on Earth ever asked for... but no complete Fellowship.

Welcome to the state of Sideshow's 1/6 Production! :pow

And I agree, INDY and JOE are next. No more than 5-6 figures total for each of those lines. :banghead

Indy is done now at 2. :lecture

Brant mentioned there being at least 2 more figures in the INDY line in the same chat today. Conventional Wisdom... and some informed speculation assumes one of those is Toht, which could breathe some new life into the line (if SSC doesn't snuff it out again with this sluggish pace).
