12 shot dead at movie theater

Detroit.....depending on which theater you go into, some of the patrons are probably carrying a gun, probably illegally. Someone whips out a gun and starts shooting, chances are there will be shots fired back. They aren't going to care who gets caught in the crossfire.

I wasn't saying that's what they should do, or even what I would do, but being close to Toledo (nicknamed little Detroit) they have things similar happen, though not to this extent.

but even so - lets say every last person in this theater was armed.....even the 3 month old.....IMO, that was not going to be a deterrent to a person like this, first and foremost. secondly, the guy came in armor. so unless youre a deadeye and nail a headshot, im unsure of what most of the pistols people typically carry are going to do. you run the risk of hitting other people for the chance at delaying him while he reacts to getting nailed in the kevlar? maybe if everyone reacted accordingly, and was cognitive enough to grab their guns and fire on him en masse, but the chances of that are pretty nil too, not to mention the casualties from all the misses... i dont know if thats a great option. let alone the fact that he gassed people on the way in.

im just not seeing the reduced impact of having armed citizens would do here.

Terrorism is usual defined by violence with some sort of political motive and probably involves some sort of ideological grouping (even if lone individuals act of their own accord).

Distinguishing "terrorism" from random violence that terrorises is important, because you need to understand something in order to create a constructive response. That is not to say "terrorists" are any less sociopathic or evil, just be because they have articulate and possibly legitimate grievances.

Ok maybe naive is the wrong word. I agree things have changed but I also think that things aren't nearly as different as the news patents ect.. Lead us to believe too. I remember a friend wouldn't let there kid have those little skateboard ramps, when at the same age we were riding 10-15' half pipes, pools, and my 4' launch ramps but 1 1/2' ramps are too dangerous. Many reasons things have changed is parents are worried about every little thing. Those parents are the same kids who grew up with us and did all things we did.


And to say no kid porno is naive, there just wasn't an Internet to easily access it.

Half pipes are different than guns. Our world now is so much different. You get a bruise crashing on a pipe..you get a bruise riding your buddy in your handlebars and crash. You get shot now going to see a movie. It's pathetic.

My brother calls me today telling me that this guy Jay he plays hockey with was currently dating Jessica Ghawi(aspiring sportscaster) who was one of the victims in this..horrible incident, i remember my brother telling me about her being with her boyfriend at the Eaton Center here in Toronto awhile back witnessing a shooting here as well.

There would have been more casualties no doubt. You ask any cop and they don't want Internet Rambos shooting up a movie theatre. Whoever sold this ____ his guns hold have called police. Who do you need ak, shotgun, and two pistols. We are too scared to raise alarm..someone should have said something.

Kind of a fine line though, don't you think? I mean do we really need to get technical about it? He terrorized innocent people with a senseless and cowardice act of violence. At least that's how I see it.

I just wish one day our governments would set "pride in the system" aside and make examples of these people. I really do. This news literally made me sad all day.

I agree with this. And I like to add that if there are multiple people carrying guns and start shooting back, there is high chances that some or all of them would mistaken others as the shooter or the shooters accomplice and go on to shoot themselves.

I'm not going to argue about it anymore. It's not even important. You're still missing the point and I don't want to try and explain it anymore. I guess you don't live anywhere where there are drive by shootings or revenge shootings often.

That's why there should be rules in place maybe. 1 gun per month. I don't know. Anyone who buys an ak rifle plus 3 other guns close to Columbine shoud be red flagged. We need to start taking more responsibility as a nation. Not less.

And I'd never own a gun. I have 2 Marshall's and 2 black water ops as friends 3 houses down. Plenty of guns on my street.

It's interesting that ppl latch on to the 3 month old @ the midnight show. Like they asked for trouble bringing an infant to the movies at midnight.

LOL, my original comment was in NO way attempting to blame the parent's for the outcome of this event. I simply questioned the rationale of people bringing an infant to this show, especially because it was midnight, and it was a loud show. Others have pointed out that sleep-times, inability to get a sitter etc. could be the answer, fine, I can agree with that. But in principle I, as a parent would forego going to a show like this (yup a great sacrifice indeed) to allow others to enjoy a grown-up movie experience.

yea, i guess im missing whatever it is youre trying to say.

it wouldnt have deterred it, it wouldnt have ended it quicker, it wouldnt have saved lives and would more likely COST lives.......so i guess i just dont get it.

and to compare this to a revenge or drive by shooting, well.........*one of these things is not like the other*
