I started drinking in high school and that's about how everyone else is here. You can't legally buy or drink in bars here till your 21 but they're suppose to card you if you don't look over 35.

This is a good example of a law that doesn't matter. It's hard for kids under 21 to buy alcohol. It's illegal. Guess what? They still get it! Same with criminals and guns. If you want something bad enough you can get it.

Ditto

I just dont think people in general are capable on the whole of weilding the power that is behind owning a gun. So by allowing access to virtually anyone you will inevitably cause more violence. Sure there are going to be hero cases but on the whole more guy shot his cheating wife or kid accidently shot his brother and the mass public doesnt hear about those.

would love to see statistics to back up your statement.

True........but people in Britain can go to bars at 16 and he was wondering why he was still carded over here.

I believe that if you can go to war, get married, be put to death, etc, you should be able to do everything at 18.

You can get married at 18, but you can't buy porn. :lol

Same with cigarettes too. Kids always had them when I was a teen. If they wanted them, they could get them.

But wouldnt you say the deterent is the accessibilty regardless of how bad you want it?

Alot of people don't even own guns. For one thing, they aren't cheap. It's not a cheap hobby.

Alot cheaper than collecting HT Batman line...I know not the time for jokes. At least the debate has ben clean, suprised this stayed opend for 145 pages

I have mixed opinions about gun ownership..

If guns are illegal, as it is here in Sweden, then it will be harder for people to obtain them, but not impossible of course. On the other hand, if you are out walking home in the night and someone with a gun jumps you, you'd wish you had a gun to protect yourself..

I once had to literally run for my life when two guys were chasing me when I was walking home from the subway station. If I had a gun, I know that I could have pointed it at them and scare them away, in worst case, they would have guns too. But then I wouldn't feel bad for pulling the trigger if they took out their guns.

I'd prefer a taser gun if it could fire more than one round, not because I care about criminals who might be about to take my life but because I might accidentally hit someone else. But not even those are legal here.

fertilizer, gasoline, and rental trucks are readily available to just about anyone here in the US.

Comparing the availability and price, the OKC bomb was about half the price, easier to acquire, and kill more then 10 times the amount of people.

You can make bombs out of fertilizer and other things. McVeigh did.

ok,but would you guys be able to mix the stuff properly..soouds risky!

Still that guy is a one off compared to the clear and present danger of guns..No?

Maybe to an entitled person that just wants something. To a motivated killer? Hell no it's not a road block at all. They will find a way to accomplish their goal.

ironically you have a higher homicide rate then we do.

Agreed, but still think there is that line. No one probably could have stopped this guy or McVeigh or those Columbine kids. But maybe you do stop that disgruntled employee who in a moment of rage opens fire on his coworkers, who wouldnt have had the tools otherwise.
