Not really. I don't see how. Like I said, if someone is hell bent on hurting people, they'll do it.
There is one thing that could help. And out of respect of the modding authority of the board i wont get into the subject so the thread can stay open.

But i will elaborate on the last point. If somebody is hell bent on inflicting damage to somebody they will do it. But the extent of the damage is entirely reliant on what is at said persons disposal. Which is why the results are so devastating in this case.

I was watching Fox News and they did report that the brother Ryan had mentioned that the guy did have mental issues/autism. But its fox news so i wont read too much in to it. But they did bring up something i agree with. That every school should have an armed police officer (or equivalent) and that the pupils should be treated as gold that must be protected.

I disagree but I won't elaborate out of respect at this point

Unfortunately, the bottom line is it boils down to security at the schools. The problem is, with the government cutting funds, security personnel are usually the first to be let go since they're deemed less of a necessity than teachers, maintenance, janitorial, etc. Then things like metal detectors, etc., are no longer even reasonable with a budget that can't even supply every student with a book. Hell, the budget in CA sucks so bad the city pulled the SRO (school resource officer/resident police officer) out of my wife's school because they couldn't afford to pay him. So unless someone's producing a magical crop of money trees, it's a serious issue that's not going to go away any time soon. :(

My wife teaches 4th grade. She used to teach high school. I told her they need armed guards at the door here on out. She said that they have nothing to do other than sit there. I said good. That should be there job. I guess in high school it's common to have armed guards handle fights and absences. So they can "afford" it in the budget. Give it to the elementary schools.

Our school system is like the NFL. They preach player safety but in the end it's all about the money.

To put things in perspective, at my wife's school, there's a single "security" officer to handle 5k kids. The other two were cut last year when the state pulled millions from the district.

mabe we need turrets like in the video games, but seriously with billions spend on weapn research you would think they would come uo with some new non lethal weapon for self defence as effective or more than a revolver

Makes me sick :(

Nice tribute piece, subzro. Very nice...

Yeah, the budget cuts suck in California they are closing a continuation school close to where I grew up that a lot of my friends attended, it's sad because this school really helped shape them become more responsible individuals. I agree armed security or some kind of Police patrol would be great even having teachers trained in gun safety could possibly prevent a situation like this, but as namm said will never happen.

Bet the football program is funded.

This is clearly a mental disease issue. While its easy to just say that it's the uneasy truth. Unfortunately how mental illness is dealt with in this country is disgusting. A terrible event, which will be politicized for the wrong reason, without looking at the root cause. We didn't ban box cutters after 9/11.

End rant. Prayers to all those involved.

I believe the actions of the young man up in Connecticut go beyond even our concepts of evil. He as either extremely mentally deranged, too thoroughly desensitized by years of play FPS games or, hell, maybe just possessed by the freakin' Devil. I cannot understand the state of mind (or that lack of one) that allows anyone to walk into a school and start shooting children (or even adults). The tragic part is is that the coward took the easy route out by shooting himself instead of being arrested and answering to the law for what he's done. With any luck, he's already answered to a higher power and is spending some much deserved time burning for eternity in a pit of molten lava....

My prayers go out to the victims and their families.
Instead of Christmas shopping those families will be looking at burial plots and caskets.
It's so sad when it involves kids and it's so close to Christmas.
God has 20 new small angels in heaven now.
"Sleep now children, you're in God's hands now."

That's my point. :lecture

Unfortunately businesses would rather see their patch on school uniforms and their banner waved at games than a tiny bronze plaque in the hall of a school thanking them for donating annually to the campus security. Sometimes business has no conscience. And honestly, given our children are the state's responsibility while at school, it's the school, not local businesses that should be required to ensure their safety. But then we're back to budget cuts. It's a cyclical problem that will only continue until things get back on track financially.

Does anyone know if there's been a FB page established to express condolences to the families or if there's a way to send them funds to cover funeral expenses, etc...?

Here we go again about being desensitized by playing games....:gah: I would have alot more to say, but just like the gun debate this isn't the place to debate that.
