Just watched Terminator on AMC HD last night. I can't believe how incredibly well this shoestring 80's sci-fi flick still holds up today. Absolutely fantastic film.

A couple scenes jumped out as being obvious favorites of Cameron:

1. In Tech-Noir Sarah is pinned under a woman as the T-800 advances. He has her dead to rights and is about to finish her off when Reese jumps into frame and shoots Arnold. Fast forward to 2009. Neytiri is pinned under a Thanator as a menacing robotic figure stands over her, ready to finish her off. The hero suddenly jumps into frame and is able to redirect the attention of the bad guy.

2. After Reese is knocked down on the catwalk by the Endoskeleton there's a shot of the Endo as it approachs and stands over him also very similar to what Cameron did at the end of Avatar. Jake is almost rendered unconscious when dueling with the AMP suit, falls, and the suit looms over him and reaches down for him in almost the exact same way.

Interesting to see that as much as his films have changed in 25 years, Cameron still has little pet shots and themes.

Very good points. Writing my senior thesis on Jim's work. It's a great time to be a Cameron fan. Hopefully this time next week we'll have more to celebrate maybe with HT's Avatar line revealed finally, maybe more T2, and a T1 official announcement.

Me too. The Region 1 SE from 2001 has an alternate Mono 2.0 track with the original sounds...I taped it off tv years ago, and I loved the film, must have watched it a few times a day...just the build to the Tech Noir scene, with Reese's nightmares, following Sarah to the club, Arnie's acquisition of a car, killing the other Sarah, it just has a sense of dread building. I remember watching it, and I was aching for great figures. Now, between HT, Sideshow and maybe NECA it's finally happening.
