I think that's the first time they've let things wind down and then start up with a semi new threat. I guess it's smart because it got kind of stupid last season.
It happened in Season 1, but that was mostly due to the fact that they had to wrap it up in 12 eps because they didn't know if they'd get a full season order. Bauer rescued his family and everything got wrapped up, then they threw a little bit on at the end with the Drazens being the ultimate masterminds behind the plan.
That kind of started the tradition of ep 12 being the game-changer, the midway point of the season. Usually, they'll put in something that changes the nature of the threat around the mid-point, I'm sure they revealed Logan as the bad guy in the mid-season. When Arnold Vosloo got finished off, they moved on to Steven Saunders. All that stuff happens around mid-season. I just remember that they wrapped up the nuclear attack real early last season, it was kind of surprising, I thought it was going to get strung out like they usually do.
Also, I'm not too much of a gov't guy but I do NOT believe that the White House could be overtaken that easily, schematics or not. There's no way a team of 12 black ops guys could take over the White House. There'd have to be tons of Secret Service guys, with way more than pistols. And I'm SURE that there's a lockdown area in the freakin' Oval Office, not one down three other hallways. Yeah, yeah, "suspension of disbelief" wateva. Oh yeah, and that Hovis guy, the Secret Service chief, FREAKIN' idiot fell for the oldest trick in the book, I wanted to punch my TV. That's one guy that I wouldn't mind catching a bullet in the rush to take back the White House.
At the end of this episode I was still psyched, but at first it looked like it was going to be a Bauer vs. Juma showdown in the White House, so it was kind of anti-climactic in that regard. But, of course, that's not really a fair fight.
If Pierce dies, I will be as pissed as I was when Tony died. That was freakin' unforgivable. As far as Tony goes, I can't shake this feeling that he's in on it, or at least, still not on the level. I think he will escape custody and live off the grid. I picture him as floating in a morally gray area between Nina and Jack, he's a bad guy doing bad things for good reasons, whereas Jack is a good guy doing bad things for good reasons. And Nina. . . well, I just wish she would come back as Zombie Nina, she was awesome, just that "love to hate" character, ooooh, what a beeyotch. If I suspend my disbelief to let cougars attack girls, and black ops guys take over the White House, I believe zombies can come back to give Jack Bauer grief. You better believe my Enterbay Jack Bauer is going to join RPD Leon in the fight against The Dead.
