The producers have seriously miscalculated if they think I care about the creepy blackmailing ex-boyfriend. You shouldn't be wasting my time like this until at least the 8th or 9th hour.

Does anyone else think (perhaps just wishful thinking) that they might reveal that the Russian baddies this season were behind Nina in season 1? (she was speaking russian on the phone, right?) Unless I'm forgetting something that would make that not possible?

I think Nina Myers was speaking German, not Russian. I think she was later connected to a German arms dealer named "Max" who was behind the events of Day 2 (including the Palmer handshake assassination attempt).

What, if anything, happened to "Max" was never addressed in the show. I think he was pursued and killed by Jack during the plot of the video game (which took place between Seasons 2 and 3).

This does not preclude connecting the Russian mob with the movements of the German arms dealer -- it would just have to be elevated to an eastern European crime syndicate. They can always ignore the video game. This would also allow them to tie up the "Mandy" loose end (plane bombing at beginning of Season 1, Palmer assassination attempt in Season 2, connected to Marwan in Season 4) -- I think she was given immunity in Season 4.

I admit to stealing this joke from someone else, but it's fun to play "Spot the guest star"

Did you notice Mike, the assassin was Horace Goodspeed from Lost??

Did you notice Jason Schwartzmann as Farhad, Hasan's brother??

The Ruskie's son was Sark from Alias and Adam Monroe/ Takezo Kensei from Heroes.

I know, they have to throw all this other crap in for time filler and drag the rest of the story down. I used to love 24 but the story structure has become way to familiar and boring. They need to either find a way to reinvent/reinvigorate the show or just end it already. I am losing interest fast.

A few more:

Cliff Simon: he's the guy who fell over the stair rail....played Ba'al on Stargate SG-1.

Benito Martinez: Victor....played Aceveda in The Shield

Paul Wesley: Kim's husband...plays Stefan on Vampire Diaries

Just watched Sunday's episodes. Nice to see Sackoff on screen and I thought she looked great with the long hair.

Besides the Ax kill, Starbuck with long hair was the best part of the episode. Forgot to record yesterday's episode, watched Chuck instead...oh well, I'll find it online somewhere

I agree on both of these posts. :lecture

Any how many times are they going to have someone on the inside involved in the plot? At least it's not someone inside CTU. Yet. :banghead

I really think you have to take the good with the bad. I think 24 has almost become a spoof of itself, and I'd like to think the producers have done it intentionally. I know Keifer said that when he found out there was a drinking game for every time he said "Dammit", he intentionally said "Dammit" as much as he could for the next episode they filmed.

I think that's why they always have a CTU agent with family drama. There's a certain formula they follow. Whether you want to call it being "meta" or just being stupid and formulaic, I think after 7 years, they've figured out what they want to do.

I think I'll like this season. Renee's story will steal the show though. She let Jack's methods influence her and instead of being able to deal with it like Jack has learned to, it broke her and now she'll have to learn to live with it (with Jack's help).

But the Katee Sackoff subplot is a bit infuriating. When you cast someone like that who previously played a strong woman on a genre show you can't cast her as a weak-willed, unphysical tech. The audience will be expecting her to kick butt when she's threatened, and when she doesn't, it just gets frustrating. If the casting had been different, the subplot wouldn't be so infuriating.

The casting of the IR President is a bit confusing too - who can take that guy with the Elvis doo seriously? He's a good actor, but they need to take a out a jihad on the hairstylist.

Yeah really liking this season as well and i agree with you over Sackoff Dave.

Could have been her choice to play this type of roll so she doesn't get type cast as the "tough" chick.

In fairness, Jack's tactics broke Jack too ... and it took him the better part of 7 seasons to figure it out. He's only been a reasonably well-adjusted human being at the beginning of about 3 seasons (1, 4 and 8). Renee just seems to have snapped to a somewhat greater extent, and a bit quicker.

He told her at the end of Season 7 to make choices she could live with -- so much for that.

As for the rest -- I'm OK with the Sackhoff storyline. I don't know any of her other work ... but its good that she doesn't play the same character in every show she's in. And, I get the feeling that she's supposed to be playing two different characters ... the strong CTU employee of her current life, and the wallflower of her past life (which appear to be colliding).

My guess is that this storyline ties to the overall plot somehow ... but, maybe it doesn't. There are occasional tangents like this in the show to flesh out some otherwise one-dimensional characters.

It may be more believable than you think.

Perhaps, it could be why she gravitated to the role, because it wasn't like Starbuck. But the producers should know there will be expectations for her character based on her one significant previous role.
