lol you two....I hope Avatar Wins somthing. James Cameron Diserves at least Best Director, he worked on this movie for years. Glad to see District 9 is up there to

Did any of you enter the SS oscar contest?

Who did you put down as the winners? (it's closed now, so it's safe to say, if you want to)

Yeah, I entered. I think there's going to be quite a lot of people vying for the top prize since this years Oscars are the easiest to predict in a very long time.

I can't remember who I picked for most of them. I did pick Hurt Locker for film and director though.

Much as I want to see the oscars recognising sci-fi/fantasy stuff (again after LOTR:ROTK) I'm indifferent about it this year. I don't care if Avatar gets Best Picture or not. The Dark Knight should have won last year and it didn't, usual story it wasn't even nominated - missed opportunity there. I think Avatar was a good, fun film with some serious stuff going on in it too but....I dunno, it didn't change my world. Neither did TDK but I seemed to enjoy it more, perhaps because we're all long-invested in Batman whereas Avatar is a newbie franchise. Maybe when I see how it stands up to multiple viewings my feelings will change.

As long as Hurt Locker doesn't win best picture I will be happy. That buzz is just as annoying as the Avatar stuff. She should win best director though.

Hurt Locker should lose because the producer guy was callin voters up and asking them to vote for the film.
Also, I heard the story was ripped off and the dude it's about is going to sue them or something and even has footage of actual stuff going on there.

I'd love Avatar to win as a final blow to all the haters lol
Or Basterds or D9!

I can understand people not thinking Avatar was the best piece of cinema like everrrrr, I am one such person, but can someone explain to me in one post why there are those who hate it? I've seen people disdainfully refer to fans as Avatards so I presume theres some venom there but I haven't kept up with the Avatar threads to find out how that happened.

Avatar got people excited about going to see 3-D movies on the big screen and paying a few dollars more for the experience. That is moving the industry forward in a new direction--look at how much Alice made this weekend. New records are going to be made because of 3-D ticket sales, and even more and more theaters are going to be in a mad rush to convert to digital projection and 3-D screens.

For the industry, Avatar pushed things forward into a promising financial upswing in the midst of a bad economy. The industry is going to want to recognize a film like that because it's reinforcing and supporting and expanding everything that Hollywood is scared of losing in the face of piracy and downloads. It got butts in seats and gave people a taste for more. That's why there's a good chance that they will give it Best Picture, because of what it means for the future of Hollywood.

But I hope Hurt Locker gets Best Director.

I think people love to Hate anything that gets to "big" or popular. I dont know if its just to make them feel different and cool, but its a common occurrence. I hope Avatar wins to piss off all the crybabies.

I'm suprised that people actually care so much who wins. Its not like they get an award as well. I can understand saying you want one or the other to win but to get so emotional about it and call people names and all the hate just seems kind of dumb to me. If I listed my top 20 favorite movies of all time I doubt more than 2-3 have won best picture so it really doesn't make much of a difference to me who wins. I hardly ever even watch the Oscars anyway.

That factors into it, consider the Titanic haters or conversely the Star Wars PT lovers. That going against the grain of popular opinion.

But I was just wondering what genuine reasons people have to hate Avatar as opposed to not liking it for the sake of being different.

I did the same thing, along with all those actors who won GoldenGlobes. But you never know, a Streep win could come out of no where. I think I put ...I forget for costume design, I think it was a french type movie.
