Re: OSCARS 2009 Nominations

Just watched The Hurt Locker. Amazing. Just amazing. It, or Basterds (or District 9!!!11) better win. Not ____ING AVATAR!

Re: OSCARS 2009 Nominations

Yep. Avatar has a shot. Just like how Epic Movie, Date Movie, Meet The Spartans, and all those damn Saw movies were number 1 at the box office for a week.

Re: OSCARS 2009 Nominations

I just hope Tarantino wins something, so I can see his giant ass head and chin in glorious HD.

It is hypnotizing. :lol

Could you give your negative Avatar comments a rest? I think we all get it by now.

Re: OSCARS 2009 Nominations

If any movie beats The Hurt Locker for best picture it will be Up In The Air. Inglourious Basterds would be a long shot but it's the only other film that has more than one Best Picture win this awards season. Avatar has no shot. The awards count so far looks like this...

Like I said in an earlier post. The only thing that is a race this year is between Bullock and Streep, with Carey Mulligan as the dark horse.

Avatar does have a shot, albeit a small one. The Hurt Locker does not feel like this year's Slumdog to me. I personally feel it was the best picture of the year, but I have a feeling there will be more than one surprise.

:lol:lol:lol

I remember when he was dating Sorvino and he was sitting in the front row of the Oscars or Globes with those party noisemakers twirling them around. He was such a ass. I bet Paul Sorvino wanted to punch him in that big head.

QT is the ugliest man in Hollywood. The fact that he dated Mira Sorvino is a travesty.

Nope. This is too much fun.

You want to know the funny part? I love Avatar. Seen it 4 times. Why am I going after it? Because it's become overhyped. And now it might actually win something important in the film indestry. Beating out films better then it. That makes me mad.

Fixed bud, and I hear yeah. Pay no attention to Batty. I don't. :peace

But he does have a point. Less is more.

Unless you have some stake in it, try and let it go. The Oscars really don't mean that much, and winning one doesn't mean much either. Remember that no film is technically "better," it's all about preference. And movies that generally win these awards are those that strike a personal chord with the viewers; sentimental, fell-good types of films. If not for these types of movies, Spielberg may not have any awards. Avatar is one of those types, as was Titanic, as are other films that have been nominated. Never underestimate the power of a feel-good film (see Babe).

Well you sound like a broken record. I'm not sure who you're trying to reach by constantly making negative comments. Do you think you'll keep it from winning an Oscar?

And STFU Eli.

Re: OSCARS 2009 Nominations

Considering that 67.4% of all Best Picture Oscar winners also won Best Picture at the Golden Globes I'd say it does.

Nope. It's only 54.3% for the drama category, and only 1 (Slumdog) in the last 5 years. Throw in the fact that only 11 films have ever won best picture and didn't have an acting nod and that only 1 film in history that won both the PGA and DGA lost the best picture and I'd say it's great odds against it.

Re: OSCARS 2009 Nominations

Yes. If I fill this thread with negative comments, Avatar wont win!

But really. I'm just trying to start an agrument. Thats all. Nothing harmful. No one has latched on...which made me disappoint. Oh well. Carry on then.

Celtic I have to say he makes a good point (finally), nobody likes a broken record.

That's because if the Golden Globe winner for Drama doesn't get it then its usually the Golden Globe Best Picture for Comedy. Considering that The Hangover isn't an Oscar nominee then statistically speaking Avatar most certainly has more than a fair chance of winning.

I'm still hoping Basterds comes through with the come-from-behind win.

Hurt Locker is going to win Best Picture. I know it. I can feel it in my bones.
