I highly recommend the "Aliens" Director's Cut Collectors Edition 2 disk set for anyone interested, 20 min of additional footage and plenty of extras.

I second that! I bought a VHS copy of the laser disk in the 90s and have since refused to watch the original theatrical edit.

So much better, Ripley's daughter, the Jordan Family @ Hadley's Hope, more Marines all in THX,plus the original cut, Special features, etc. This DVD received high critical praise as well, a must get.

I've waited so long now that I'm waiting to upgrade until the HD DVD version comes out. The laser disk had all the new scenes, just no other features or THX. My favorate new scene was Newt's family finding the elephant-alien ship from the first film and act one life at the coloney. It's so much better a movie with the additional scenes. It's the opposite of Blade Runner which, IMO, was a much better film noir piece with the VO.

Did you know Al Matthews (Apone) was a Green Beret? I mention this b/c I learned about it on the DVD and THIS is the day we should see some pics of our Apone custom painted head by Custom Mikey.

This is OT, but I thought those of you who like statues might find a glimpse of this resin garage kit interesting:

luckystar.jpg

Sculpted by Gabriel Marquez, and approximately 1:6 scale. Garage kits are a whole different (expensive) hobby presenting two challenges: finding a particular kit, and building and painting it. Think PF money for a 1:6 statue -- but statues of subjects you'll never see again. Sideshow began as a resin kit company; I have an unbuilt Sideshow kit of Schlitzie the Pinhead from "Freaks."

If anyone is interested in this particular kit, pm me for info on a reliable dealer who won't sell you a recast. This particular kit has been recast, apparently in England, so inferior fakes pop up on eBay from time to time; buyer beware.

We will now return to the poseable figure world.

That is amazing, Gruff. Thanks. Now I can't wait for my Hot Toys Ripley. I'm already hunting for a correct bomber jacket for her.

APONE

Okay, guys. Here's Apone. Enjoy the making-of. The last three pics are the finished heads in different lighting. I hope you like them!!

The Apones arrive.

Layers 2,3, and 4: Apone looks like a zombie, skintone worked on, and finer details added. He's close to done.

Al right, Pop Quiz Hotshots: It's time for Trivia!

In "ALIENS", what was the population of LV 426 aka Hadleys Hope?

Unbelievable! :woo

I was going to reveal the answer because I thought this question was too hard-core esoteric.

Okay, here's another one which you may find more germaine...

Name and identify the first victim in "ALIENS"

The first victim among the USCM? Or the very first victim -- like Jones the cat?

The first person who died from an Alien.

Edit:answer coming soon! Final clue: 157 of the 158 Colonists died on LV 426 before the Marines "dropped in".

Wasn't that Newt's Mom?

Very close, Mikey!

The answer: Russ Jorden, Newt's Father

The Jorden family were on a "Mom and Pop" scouting mission when they came upon the derelict Alien ship. Russ entered the ship and was attacked by a facehugger, thereby becoming the first host. This was a deleted scene from the Aliens Director's Cut which ended with a close-up of Newt screaming.

New trivia question coming tomorrow.

Just got back from watching the season finales of "24" and "Alias"... Really frustrating that they just let "Alias" fall apart like they did. Shame on you JJ.

OK, back to Aliens...

You stumped me P. I forgot that Newt's pop was the first to get hosed.
