Hmm, busy little thread.

A couple of thoughts on scary movies.
I don't think the alien isn't scary anymore. I think script writers and directors have become lazy. Anything can terrorize you. It's just a metter of how you write the story and how you present the monster. Otherwise why are there movies about ghosts that scare the crap out of people?
I mean, c'mon, who wouldn't be scared to find an alien in some dark corner?

As for the sexual aspects of the movies, I think they're very strong. As someone mentioned earlier, the facehuggers not only rape men, they also impregnate them. How's that for sexual?
And who could forget the alien taunting Ripley with its tongue in the Narcissus? That was pretty suggestive...
All alien movies have very strong undercurrents of sexualiy, religion, motherhood and (obviously) death. Pretty heavy stuff, actually.
I think that's what makes them so succesful (some more than others).

Going back to the figure itself, so is the Grid figure an exclusive for Blister?

Well the exclusive accessory better be impressive enough to justify a brown turd repaint of the AVP warrior. So far this "exclusive" sounds pretty lame.

I'm with you on this one. Brown just does not cut it!

If Aliens are in it, it's ok to me. So far, I have enjoyed them all.
AVP too. It's all good.
:D

Same goes with the Aliens and Predator figures! Make them, and I will get them. Sweet and simple! Get 'em all baby! Brown rules! (Has nothing to do with AVP, but it looks better as a figure...to me that is...:D )

I've always thought that the SEGA ALIEN was THE best Alien replica I've ever seen. It still stands true.

So Les, how is it as a figure out of the box? The only reason I never got it was because I was told it was not true 1/6th scale. Is it? How does it look with the HT marines?

I may have to buy it anyway...

Wor-Gar, it's a tad small. I held it up and in the foreground, to give it scale and to look good with the Mac figure.
I too think it looks GREAT! And, if it were true scale, I would never bother with another ALIEN version figure. As it is, I stand frustrated that there isn't a perfect one that is about 4 inches taller. He's about 11 1/2 inches, while the Mac is 13 1/2, so it does look much better, even though it too is a smidgen smaller than it should be. I'd say a true warrior hieght would be about what the HT one is, 16 inches. If it is that (don't have it yet...)

Dave, it may be Konami. Not sure who makes it. You may be right. Thanks on that.

OH, and that is Frank Black, and I put him on a Dragon body to make it the right hieght with the HT set. The jumpsuit is not done yet, but it's a pilot suit I found online. I forgot which, a BBI I think. I will get that info for you.

That's the one Dave. I never knew exactly who it was made it, it was in a bag on a card, if I recall correctly.
The jumpsuit is a BBI US Airforce Pilot Overall. I got it from Ironcrosshunter on Ebay. It needs belt loops and a black belt, and better sneakers with the right colors. I have pics of that. I got some patches from a guy that customs Colonial Marines, and all I need is a good laptop and a torch flashlight for him.

Btw, Frank Black's head is hollow and soft, so it flares out a bit too wide, so I filled it with tissue, and soaked that in superglue, then held it the right shape and sprayed fix into the head. That was a hot and smelly operation, but it made the head solid and shaped correctly. Thank god it was not solid like most SS heads!

I was wondering how you made Frank look so gaunt. I thought maybe you re-cast the head and did the shrinkage that guy used on the Han Solo head, but whatever works, you're the Master Les! I will have to give that a try when I repaint my Frank Black to look like first season. Now I'm going to have to get another one so I can make Bishop.

Konami does make alien figures -- in fact they make the best 1/6th scale chestburster and facehugger that I know of. But their "mature" aliens are all very small in scale; basically the same size as their facehuggers and chestbursters. They make some space craft and a space jokey as well. That one that Les shows is indeed something called a "Japan Sega" alien that is approx. 12" tall, was bagged, and was offered in a black version and a rare brown version. Perhaps Konami owns this "Sega" now but back when this was released it was the Sega Alien. You can still find them on eBay listed as Sega alien. I can't find any 12" Alien version by Konami now.

lol. no wonder ur the master Les. no way in hell i'd ever thought to use tissue and superglue to reshape a head. brilliant!

COOL! I have always been somewhat partial to the original Giger one, but after some watching and some years of study, I find that the Alien 3 is the most sublime design. It sticks with you despite whether you like the movie or not. I happen to LOVE Alien 3 as a movie, I find it refreshing in that it got back to the dark plot, but I am just that way I guess. It does have just as many quotes and stuff as any of the others. Good movie if you can get past the old "Didn't go where I wanted the Aliens franchise to go" spiel, ie. Colonial Marines, Colonial Marines, Colonial Marines....
But, ANYWAY...I like the critter design, and LOVED painting it. It was a true blast to paint, and get close, finally, for once! So thanks.

I like all the aliens designs actually. I think they skimped like hell on AVP, due to the "Who can see them in the dark anyway" thing, so, let's just go black and drybrush gunmetal on them thing...duh! But, the others are amazing works of art. Even the 1/1 ALIENS puppet, which is my fave of that movie.
All are cool designs and paints. And for some reason, lack of good stills maybe, there are so many interpretations. Cool. Love that too. Somebody did an amazing albino alien one time...amazing...

Thanks guys. Appreciated.

I mentioned that ALIENS warrior puppet being my favorite ALIENS warrior version (I am not so hot on the shorter, stubbier spandex fellas...no offense...), so here is a pic of it....I think if Hot Toys makes a warrior for that set...This is it!!!!! Add legs and all of course! :D
