IMHO: The "grimy/peeling" texture makes the Alien look more old and fossilized like it was sitting there dead for an eternity, like how the texture on the Space Jockey is.

The "smooth" texture looks more like a young and freshly molted Alien that's ready to hunt. Plus it kinda gives off a more mechanical vibe to the creature versus more bio.

Different strokes, for different folks I suppose. If you're happy with whatever you collect then more power to yah. I know I'll be extremely happy with my SS Big Chap Maquette and my Sano Alien statue. Smooth textures FTW!! :yess:

CM all the way...Still the best for me..its a very underrated piece
Should jump on it now while its still a good price. I just got it recently for $1300 shipped, was very happy with that. But im hearing people even getting it cheaper.

what do you mean? Just going by the picture below, I don't see anymore detail with the Sano head then the CM. Maybe your talking about because the Sano is a smoother sculpt? I think the biggest thing that the CM really captures that most other larger scale Alien statues don't is the grimy looking sculpt; it's how I would imagine a creature like this would look like in real life. All the smooth looking are sculpts less realistic imo.

What I always loved about the alien was its mouth area, when the mouth was closed it looks pretty small but when it opens the skin, cartilage etc stretch open and the alien opens its sleek swept back mouth very female like mouth and the inner mouth tongue comes out. I found the CM didn't capture that ( even some sideshow pieces never manage too, imo ). Gigers Necronom designs always had a sleek sexual feel to them, was it a female - male or was it genderless and I always found that interesting. Some statues and figures have manage to capture that but many others haven't. the sano one for me has def captured the alien ...

but I'm sure the piece will skyrocket in value whenever Mr. Giger passes. Just look at all the Stan Winston collectibles.

I did mean to put a :( with my post, because I would like to own a cinemaquette. And yes, you can tell by my avatar that I do have the SS maquette on order to go along with my Aliens warrior.

I have both the SS maquette and the Sano statue on preorder (I got the black version bc it most resembles his other sculptures).

I also have the CM.

There are strengths in all:

the CM was not only signed off on by Giger, but he had input. Also Paul Komoda who is Giger's sculptor of choice on many other projects, unbeknownst to Giger until later in the process, was actually the artist on this project. I like the spinning around effect, like when the alien was going to attack Parker - that was the intent. I like the monochromatic colors, the peeling skin, the chrome teeth, and the overall look. My only gripe is the feet - not so accurate since the actor is already on tiptoes in the suite, the tiptoes position is unecessary, and the statue has a weird lean- that's a factory result...anyway, the feet themselves should have a highheel platform shoe feel without being on tiptoes (like the Kenner and Neca). And the head shape is more bulbous than I'd like, but the face from the front angles looks really nice.

The Sano, is an exact little replica of Giger's sculpt - =)
The heads dome is all good from what I can tell--
Minus the elbow spikes - but a perfect little package -- well, not so little at about 18" (45cm, 50cm with base, 19.7" with base) 1/5 scale according to Roswell

And the SS maquette has a great cinematic quality to it in the paint job and pose - despite the nosferatu fingers -- and treats it like a real creature -- he'd be able to move his fingers more than what limitations the suit had on movement--

I also highly suggest the 1/2 scale alien head also supervised signed by giger -- the head only version with the wave styled black base , almost exactly resembles the sano sculpts in terms of smoothness and shape - but flat black with chrome teeth.

The shape of the mouth varies depending on whether the "lips" are fully pulled back or not.
You can see the effect on some test footage of the Rambaldi head in the extras of the Quad set.

EDIT:
Here it is!

No comparison if you ask me. Sano wins.

I'd like to see someone sculpt this version:

Other than the arm and leg pose, the SEGA vinyl / XPlus metal statue resebles the texture and shape of this version...including suitmation wrinkles and such...

Wow based on the pics above, you can see how close the medicom 12" really is to the Sano version

I have this one! :hi5: I love it, love it, love it, especially the addition of the Giger signature.

But damn you for tempting me even more to start searching for a CM...

Agreed the mouth varies on whether the lips are fully back or not, but that's what made the aliens mouth so awesome, why couldn't CM capture that is all i am saying ... :gah:

If SS chose this pose for their 1/4, I would have instantly purchased it.

Totally agree ... always love this pic of the alien

I like this one:

Me too.

Funny how just with a lil slight bend at the knees and elbows, can make a such a huge difference. Taking the pose from being totally static to "alive" looking. Very nice indeed. :wink1:
