I have both the SS maquette and the Sano statue on preorder (I got the black version bc it most resembles his other sculptures).
I also have the CM.
There are strengths in all:
the CM was not only signed off on by Giger, but he had input. Also Paul Komoda who is Giger's sculptor of choice on many other projects, unbeknownst to Giger until later in the process, was actually the artist on this project. I like the spinning around effect, like when the alien was going to attack Parker - that was the intent. I like the monochromatic colors, the peeling skin, the chrome teeth, and the overall look. My only gripe is the feet - not so accurate since the actor is already on tiptoes in the suite, the tiptoes position is unecessary, and the statue has a weird lean- that's a factory result...anyway, the feet themselves should have a highheel platform shoe feel without being on tiptoes (like the Kenner and Neca). And the head shape is more bulbous than I'd like, but the face from the front angles looks really nice.
The Sano, is an exact little replica of Giger's sculpt - =)
The heads dome is all good from what I can tell--
Minus the elbow spikes - but a perfect little package -- well, not so little at about 18" (45cm, 50cm with base, 19.7" with base) 1/5 scale according to Roswell
And the SS maquette has a great cinematic quality to it in the paint job and pose - despite the nosferatu fingers -- and treats it like a real creature -- he'd be able to move his fingers more than what limitations the suit had on movement--
I also highly suggest the 1/2 scale alien head also supervised signed by giger -- the head only version with the wave styled black base , almost exactly resembles the sano sculpts in terms of smoothness and shape - but flat black with chrome teeth.
