Well they are already doing this one for the Generations line which may give some idea of what a MP G1-style tank Megatron might look like.

Maybe they actually thought the first MP Megs was the best they could do as a gun?

Shogo Hasui designed a Masterpiece Laserbeak that was more cartoon accurate and that did away with partsforming weapons whilst still being the same size in tape mode as the original.

I can't remember which of the other 2 designers it was but he was given 12 days to design MP Megatron V1. It's robot mode isn't great and the scale doesn't fit with the reboot that started with MP10, but the way the transformation works is still very, very impressive.

With designers who're that good, I don't think doing a better Megatron is beyond them.

I also don't get why people are frothing at the mouth because V2 hasn't yet dropped, what's the rush?

Compared to the Autobots there's only a small number of Decepticons that're likely to be financially viable under whatever Takara's present business model is so it makes sense to spread 'em out.

The MP25 rumor that I read started via Robot Kingdom and has already been debunked so I'm guessing the tank one has replaced it and a couple of cars have been thrown in for good measure :rolleyes2

Yeah, I don't like to engage in idle speculation or wishful thinking. . .which is why I'm not hesitating to buy that awesome 3rd party Megs! ;)

If Takara's V2 Megs is a tank then they've officially jumped the shark.

Not sure if I'd go with Apollyon even then... Might wait for another third party (e.g. FansToys) to tackle it. It really just depends on how the reviews go.

The highlight of Supanova Pop Culture Expo today was definitely being able to see and listen to Peter Cullen talk about his career voicing Optimus Prime and other characters.

He was funny, warm, sincere, and just showed great respect for all the writers and animators of the characters that he portrayed.

And when he finished off by saying some of Optimus Prime's most famous lines, it was just unbelievable how that just sends your TF geek senses wild! Great interview and panel today - something I'll remember for a long time!

In the midst of all the BS there are 2 different attempts at a MP style Mirage coming out,

There's this one from a new company,

MMC are also having a go,

Both alt modes look good, but Invisible's robot mode looks like an updated Classics figure, the aesthetic is way off being what it needs to be to be a proper fit with the Masterpiece line.

koolkollectibleskhai,
Must have been awesome hearing him say those lines, a couple of years back I went to a convention and got to hear Brian Blessed saying the immortal "GORDON'S ALIVE!" line from Flash Gordon several times which was hilarious....he's so loud he actually made a few people jump :lol

Ra88,
Congrats! I prefer the Takara colors and packaging myself but the Hasbro set was better value for money coming with all the tapes so I hope you got a good deal.

Oh definitely, I paid half plus shipping for it, the other half was part of a commission payment. So I got it for 100 euros total, workhours not taken into the cost. So yeah, I lucked out big time with that. Incredible figure too, though I wish the tape mode was a bit tighter, and the tape-storage gimmick worked better.

Oh, for those interested in MP-23 Exhaust, it looks like it's going to be a pain to get it. Apparently it falls under the "you can't sell smoke-related paraphilia to children" rule and can lead retailers to some major legal trouble. BBTS is already canceling their orders.

I could be wrong here but… Unique Toys and DX9 are the same company or were the same company. You still can find some DX9 stuff like Splinter listed as being made by Unique Toys. They're also not a new company. They have come out with a few products at this point and all have been well received as best as I can tell. Unique Toys seems to be doing all Classics/Generations style stuff and DX9 is doing Masterpiece and Legends scale.

I think it's likely that Takara have other character designs on file just waiting for a green light to go into production so maybe Hasui already did Megatron before he was moved off the line. At the very least I would think some preliminary sketches have been done.

You know, that's probably true...

MMC's looks pretty good, but Mirage's alt mode definitely needs a proper seat. I mean, I know this isn't Alternators, and I usually don't care when the interior isn't visible, but not when it's right out there in the open.

That is a very good deal! :clap

What do you think of the transformations on Laserbeak/Buzzsaw and Ravage? They're two of my favorites in the entire line.

Intresting development on Exhaust, I've not 100% decided on whether to get a couple yet but if I do I hope it doesn't affect the ability of the UK dealers to get it in stock.

DPrime,
Agreed on the car seat on the alt mode, that's one thing that I feel Invisible does better at this stage but hopefully MMC will make the changes before the physical prototype is put together, unless their transformation is dependent on not having a proper F1 cockpit.

Or better still the rumor about an official one turns out to be legit and Takara blow both away.

KFC and Xtransbots are also the same company

What's the evidence of that if you don't mind me asking? I have heard a lot of speculation about new companies being the same as some existing company but UT and DX9 being the same or at least both being spawned by the same now disbanded company (CHMS) is the only one I have heard that seems to have a decent amount of supporting evidence for.

Would be a troubling precedent if Takara's MP line started taking extensive artistic license by changing the alt form for an otherwise G1-accurate Megs. I hope they don't ever do such a terrible thing.
